As a native Austinite, I am a little reluctant to post here for fear of wrath. But I do wish the station -- and Cincinnati where I first heard them back in '03 on a business trip -- the very best. I would do the same if they were moving to San Francisco, New York, or anywhere really.
As a native, I am a little skeptical of South Congress though I think WOXY.com will make a nice addition. Most of us long-time locals are still a little pissy about California taking over downtown south of the river. (c.f., Freakonomics). Having said that, I like that indie media is banding together in this instance. Blah blah blah I love you all. -l |

A very wise move. Good luck with the transition.

I understand this will be good for the station, but it is inexplicably sad at the same time.
More pertinent, what becomes of Local Lixx? Do you drop it altogether or turn it into a Texas production? |

Oh, and it's been hot and dry down here, so dress light. It is usually scalding through a good hunk of September before it starts genuinely cooling off (this is why they moved ACL Festival even later on the calendar).
Pro-tip: Halloween is usually either hot or relatively cool (the body's used to 90s and then we'll get a cold front in Autumn and people will be dragging out the sweaters even though the high is in the low 70s). HTH, -l |

Ultimately, this is just another company leaving Cincinnati. No two ways about it; and that's unfortunate.

Dear Austin,
Please take care of my friends and my beloved station. We are excited for this big move for them, it's like taking your first real job. Oxford for undergrad, Cincy for grad school and now Austin, the real world. Look out for them and help them prosper in this big new world. And if you so much as lay a finger on them, I will systematically and comprehensively burn you to the ground. See you soon (SX'10), ld |

Open arms...
Sorry for the Cincy people, you guys are loyal and have done so much to help the station. We'll do our best to make woxy feel at home and carry the torch. If woxy can become as much a part of the Austin scene as it is in Cincy, woxy will be VERY strong. |

I've only been listening for three years or so, and I don't live in Ohio, so I don't have nearly the history with this station as most of you. But I would like to say something.
When I started listening Barb was still the morning DJ. (This was a few months, maybe a year, before the shutdown that in turn lead to the acquisition by lala.) Back then woxy.com felt like this cool college radio station nobody had heard of. I felt I had discovered this little hidden jem in the midst of this huge, noisy beast that was the internet. On that first day of listening I heard maybe one or two songs I already knew -- the rest was brand new to my ears. It was a wonderous oasis in a desert of overplayed music. I've been hooked ever since. But here I want to emphasize the "nobody had heard of" part. During the lala period I think something changed for the staff at woxy. Since the move to Future Sounds this station has done nothing but grow and diversify its offerings, all while remaining true to their mission and identity. There's so much going on, even when there isn't a DJ in the studio. To me, this station is no longer that little jem tucked away in the internet somewhere. Woxy.com is becoming an internet presence unlike anything the webs have seen before. It's staggering to think about. I can only imagine what things will be like a year from now. These folks have vision. I'm grateful to be a witness. |

There have been a few boarders who are worried that WOXY's departure will kill the music scene. Don't worry people, the scene will survive. The bands will keep playing, the bars will still serve alcohol and fountain square will still be indie in the summer. Wussy, Bad Veins, Pomegranates etc. aren't going to stop playing shows because WOXY isn't broadcasting their interweb signal from Longworth Hall.

Good luck!
I think it's a cool move. As someone who has never been to Cincinnati and started listening to WOXY a couple of years ago online, it sounds like a good move to scoot on down to my home state and such a great city for live music. Of course it sucks for those of you who feel the Ohio tie, but the station is only gonna keep getting better, right?? Crappy or not, I feel like I will have a little more cred when I tell people to listen to a great online radio station based in Austin.
Wherever you'll be, long live rock and roll.

Now cincy has nothing cool. Are bands gonna even bother stopping here if they can't get a lounge act plug? I cannot begin to say how upset I am. But as long as there is music playing I'll probably listen.
There better be a fucking sick going away party. Start lining up the bands guys. |

This move has made me tremendously upset. Now when I have to explain what is WOXY, what am I going to say? I can't say it's an online radio station from Cincinnati. I don't know what I'm going to say. Well, there you go. Everything's ruined.
![]() * * * Super congrats to the WOXY folks! Hope you all have a great time. I know you thought this through and found out this was in the best interest of the station (and, ultimately, us). I haven't been to Austin (or Texas) yet, but this certainly would make me consider a quick trip. And, well, to be honest it takes a bit of the appeal about going to Cincy, since the WOXY studios is the one touristic attraction I was interested in. But who knows what the future may bring. |
