WOXY Is On The Move

WOXY Fans and Friends -

We've been busy upgrading this year... our new broadband broadcast streams, WOXY Radio iPhone app, and great new programs like the Pampelmoose New Music Hour, Future Sounds Radio, the 1-2-3-4 More More More show and The Waiting Room. And now it's time to step up our WOXY Lounge Acts live in-studio sessions.

Every March for the past 3 years, we've headed south to Austin, Texas, for the SXSW Music Festival. We set up camp at EAR Studios in East Austin, rounded up some of the best up-and-coming bands we could find, and broadcast 20+ live WOXY Lounge Act sessions over the course of the week. With such great access to the artists that make these Lounge Act sessions so special, we thought why not broadcast from "The Live Music Capital of the World" full-time?

WOXY is headed south. Come September 8th, WOXY will be broadcasting full-time from Austin, Texas. Our new digs in Austin will allow us to take things to the next level and bring you even more live Lounge Act sessions. You'll not only get to hear the sessions, but you'll be able to see them as well. We'll have our own sound stage that will allow us to shoot video of all of our Lounge Acts and bring them to you in HD video.

As hard as it is for us to leave Cincinnati, we're all pretty excited about what is to come, and we hope you are too. See ya in Texas, y'all!

- Mike, Shiv, Joe and Bryan Jay

We're sure you'll have some questions, so we've put together a little list of frequently asked questions over at www.woxy.com/austin-faq

Wow. Just, Wow.

I got mixed feelings about it. Cincy and Ohio do make their mark on rock music and created the best radio station in America and now its going.

Just like a lot of other great things in Austin, they don't come from Austin, but end up there.

Sounds like a lo-fi version of Doves, I thought it was a Doves track from their new retrospective. Formerly of The Beta Band.

Villa Nah - Running On

These guys are huge in Finland, sounds cliche, but apparently they are. I like the techno-acid jazz stylings. Warning: very Euro.

So you ARE going to plan, sponsor, and host an annual WOXY.COM "Return to Basics" festival in Cincinnati....right?

Aw man, that sucks for Cincinnati. What's going to happen with the HD radio station on WVXU? Is that sticking around?

Makes total sense, but still makes me sad for sentimental reasons.

GASP.

SERIOUS mixed feelings on this one... I mean, if it's what's best for the station, then I can't complain. But seriously, Cincinnati/southwest Ohio is officially DEAD, musically.

I can't help but think this will seriously and negatively impact the number of good acts coming to our area.

And I will miss you guys

But like I said, if it's what's best for the station, then farewell and all the best!!

That's the main thing I'm worried about, so I can keep listening all day in my car.

On the FAQ:

Will you continue to broadcast on WVXU’s HD-2 HD Radio channel in Cincinnati?
We're still working out the details on this, but we hope to be able to continue broadcasting in Cincinnati at WVXU 91.7 FM HD-2.

Yet another thing leaving Ohio. Dissappointed doesn't even come close to what I'm feeling now.

Agreed on all counts. There goes one of the last major musical cool things about Cincinnati.

But I wish the crew and station the best of luck in the move!

Well, I guess Texas now has one good thing going for it.

Of course, now we'll expect plaid shirts and ironic mustaches on the webcam...

But Congrats, guys, this is very exciting!!!

I always wondered if this would happen. I was hoping they would continue a presence here, but I know that Mike pretty much hates it here. "Pretty much" may be an understatement. Of course, while Shiv is out and about all the time, I can't think of a time I've seen Mike out at a local music event. He was probably the one who didn't want a location more in the city instead of out on the edge of Cincy when they left Oxford; he said he wanted them to go to Dayton.

Not that this is totally Mike's doing or anything. Well, good luck with everything. I can imagine that Austin already has a well established radio landscape. But if moving to Texas means a video camera can be added to the lounge, well...

I'll keep listening. But I'm sure not as much.

Best of luck on the move guys, heading to a main artery of where music lives and breathes in the US is definitely a step in the right direction for the station, exposure and being-a-part-of-it-all wise. So congrats on the MAJOR upgrade. ... even though a part of me hates to see you go. But I understand "upward and onward" completely.

It would be nice to drop by one last time before the move... can I make an appointment to stop by for some handshakes and baby kissing?

I'm sad and excited at the same time. This station has gone through so many hurdles in the recent years. I'm glad that they are evolving in a manner that keeps them ahead of another failure. Darwin would be proud.
