My guess is either TV on the Radio or The Hold Steady. Those seemed to get alot of play.

For #1, I am going with Built To Spill. They spun a bunch of songs off that record. Sentimentally I hope that they choose Silversun Pickups, but they should place high too.

That doesn't seem very fair at 1st glance. I would think it would favor the January / February releases and penalize the November / December releases.

Is this the way it has been done in previous years?

Smile Good deal...

This is perfect...now I can replace all my (virtual) Sticky notes I lost when my hard drive crashed about a week ago. I'm at a loss on emusic without my trusty woxy.com guides.

As far as I know, it's been determined by airplay for some time (though in the FM days, it was a combination of airplay, weeks on playlist and some count in the weekly Top 10).

I think it will have to be an album released earlier in the year, since the second-half releases will suffer a one-month off-air penalty (Sept. 15-Oct. 10).

yeah, back in the past you could really get a feel for what the 97 best was going to be, if you paid attention to the Top 10 show every Monday night (the name of which is escaping me right now!...Modern Rock Countdown? GAAAAH!!!)

Perhaps they've got them one of those al-go-rithms to balance things out.

Not necessarily. We projected additional airplay for late in the year releases, but we wanted to present a list that best represented what we played in 2006, so a late year release may be left off. That's been pretty standard on our Best Of countdowns from the get-go. Certainly, we're not exclusive to that train of thought.

Shiv, Joe and myself will also be posting a list of our own Top 20 lists of the year, so you can get the 'critical' angle from each of us personally, as well as what we feel provided 'the sound' of WOXY from the past year.

It was the People's Choice Countdown I believe. And I miss it terribly.

You're right: back then it was pretty easy to guess what would be #1.

didn't you spill the beans a few years ago that you used to have Sledge and Bake wrestle an army of ferrets in order to see who got to pick the #1 CD? i can't recall if that was it exactly, but it incorporated the same level of scientific scrutiny.

Gotta agree on the BTS sentiments ... if purely based off of spins, then 'Goin' Against your mind' is top 5. Personally, I always thought 'the wait' was more compelling/epic off of that album.

Btw, how's the rest of the white whale album? Really enjoy that song. On first listen, it sounds quite similar to Augie March.

The flip side of this is that some end-of-year albums would appear in back-to-back 97 Best countdowns. (U2, The Strokes and Coldplay all made back-to-back appearances earlier in the decade, IIRC).
