white knight...

Hey folks, we'd like to save woxy. You can learn more about us at lala.com, but we're very well funded and humbled by the great work the people here have done. Please tell the fab four at woxy to contact us.

Late night post

Sorry for the spelling error. I just came back from Costa Rica (surfing) and roxy is common surf brand. I'm not interested in anything other than chatting with the folks at woxy.com.

The "Z" Foundation is named in honor of Fr. Brian Zinnamon SJ, a Jesuit priest who recently passed away. "For nearly 20 years, Fr. Zinnamon has challenged me and lala.com co-founder, John Cogan, to be as creative and enthusiastic in our charitable work as we are in our professional lives," said Nguyen. "Years after lala.com is gone, I expect the "Z" Foundation will go on improving the living standards for working musicians so that our culture will continue being influenced by their art."
A non-profit enterprise, seeking to help out struggling artists... seems noble.
Just how beholden to Fr. Zinnamon's legacy shall you expect this website to be, should your help be considered?
If my late great uncle Pete, the Jesuit priest, were still alive, and read some of the posts I've typed or responded to, I would expect quite the stern lecture next time I saw him. This station and its message boards have always been about helping the independent musicians and keeping ideas wide open and flowing. This is an artistic and progressive community. Coming from a conservative background, I have never felt more welcome by any group of folks in my life, including my extended family. (Sorry, that's not a stab at my great uncle Pete.)
I just have to wonder about the motive here.

We've been day dreaming about creating a radio service where members create the shows. We have an amazing amount of technology, but it lacks some soul. I've never heard of woxy until tonight. I've been reading the forum and concept and felt inspired to try and continue the story.

Our business is fairly simple, we want music to be more about community (buying from one another and from artists) and less about tops down marketing (Wal-mart). If we're successful, the costs of marketing and distribution of music will dramatically fall and more money will go to musicians and to technologies that make music more available.

The Z Foundation is an example of our business being able to create economic benefits for musicians. We're still learning and still defining what we'll become but woxy seems like a wonderful place to help continue.

Fr. Z also believed in freedom of speech. If you have more time to learn about us, you'll see that we censor nothing.

Bill,

If you are serious about wanting to learn more about WOXY, as a fan of the station since 1991 when I attended college in the town where the station was originally based, I can give you the background that I know. Of course, you can learn a lot by just digging through these message boards. Anyway, if you'd like to meet face to face, I'm assuming you're based in Palo Alto where your company is (I've used your service, BTW). I live just a couple of cities to your south, so stopping by for a chat would be easy. Send me a PM if you're interested.

Aaron

Wouldn't you think that almost every angle has been looked into already besides a wealthy individual investor?

I'd love for this to work, but I have a negative vibe.........

If you have any serious thoughts about WOXY, you need to contact our GM, Bryan Jay Miller (bryan@woxy.com). He is headed out of town for the R&R convention for the rest of the week, but will be reachable again next Monday.

Holy shit. You didn't shoot this down.

Still, I'm pretty doubtful but....... *fingers crossed for a miracle*

Don't get all excited. This is just the 3rd stage of grief - bargaining. Or maybe it's denial. I don't know. But in this case, I'll go by this mantra: "Expect nothing and you'll never be disappointed."

I suspect this phrase, "but we're very well funded" kind of stood out where the schemes of varying degrees of harebrainedness that the rest of us supplied did not...

Shivvy - I sent Bryan an email this morning. If possible, can you have him email me back with a # to call. If this works (and I'm hopeful) we'd like to make it happen as quickly as possible so there's no big lag between radio being back on the air.

Btw, just Google "Bill Nguyen" and you guys will get tons of information on me.

Bill,

I have Googled you.

I am impressed with what I have read, and I hope that enterprising people like yourself who value authenticity, passion, and a little profit mixed in for good measure are able to revive good things like WOXY.

Your reputation, while not preceding you to this message board, should certainly be taken seriously. I wish there was a way for little old me to help you in your efforts to align your current endeavors with WOXY. I'm sure, however, that Bryan Jay, shivvy, Mike, Barb, and the rest of the crew will more than fill that need if it so arises.

I'm really excited about what you are saying here. I have been listening to 97X/WOXY since 1992, and there are thousands more like me (many who have been listening since the beginning) who are rabid about what these people have been doing for the last 23 years. What happened on the 97.7 frequency in Oxford, Ohio, and what has been happening for the last couple of years at woxy.com in Cincinnati is very special.

Crossing my fingers.

I dunno...it seems kind of weird that he'd choose the message board to talk about this rather than the dj's email addresses (which are easy to find on the site). A lot of people are buzzed about this, and I think it's unfair to them if whatever "deal" doesn't work out. You then just got everyone's hopes up for nothing.

Interesting...

I find this possibility very intriguing. I'm against any sort of buyout and said foundation sounds pretty decent. If they let the station do it's thing then it would benefit everyone in the pie. I'm not getting my hopes up but it's still exciting none the less. Good luck to both ends.

You definately have a point. I am not 'hopeful' at all, but I'll cross my fingers for anything. And since this is the first non negative comment I've heard from Shiv out of any of our hairbrained ideas, I'll keep those fingers crossed, but I don't expect anything.

while i hope this is legit,

the easiest explanation is that someone is just trying to fuck with everyone's head.

i'd love it if i'm wrong.
