Honestly, I think it's all on preference. I'd rather have a digital camera that took pictures the instant I clicked the button instead of having to wait those few seconds. To me, that would be more of a deciding factor than RAW.

go for speed... you can't tweak the shot if you don't get it in the first place.

I went with speed. I got the Canon S2IS. For like $10 more was the Kodak, with a bigger LCd, and one more megapixel. But I'dheard such good things about the Canon that I went with that. Taken a few shots, nothing post-worthy yet.

Thanks a bunch! I don't have one for my Canon G3, I just used the macro setting it has built in.

sparks from a bic lighter...
colors/contrast/etc tweaked and resized to 1024x768 for use as a wallpaper...

fullsize (1024x768) here

more sparks from a bic lighter...
this time colors/contrast/etc left alone... check out the full size for some nice detail in the flame/sparks.

fullsize (huge, 381kb) here
http://www.elvis77.com/spark2.jpg

and if you are lazy here is a crop (about 50% of original size) of the flame

This is the only picture with a working title. I call it, "Street Impression", because that's exactly what it is. And it makes me feel snooty that I used the word impression.

I'm insanely happy with how this one turned out. The red and blue contrasted perfectly. It was hard taking this one though. I had to lay on the ground and stick my head inside a bush. I had so much crap in my hair after that.

I'm not sure if I like how some of the leaves are different colors. Also, the photo people messed up the developement of this one, and part of another picture was on this, so I had to crop some off.

A typical picture I guess. I like powerlines. The only thing that really makes this one interesting is the position of the clouds and sun.

On a rainy day.

Taken at Bethany's camp. One of my best atmosphere pictures.

Nice pics DrPanda...

I love the tulips pic... and the last one...

I've got gobs of shots like the first one... I love taking those types of shots... nice use of the road signs for the green, find a road with yellow lines and you get yet another color to play with.

these pics are very... "contrasty" ??? you just can't get that look with digital. Dang... now I want a film camera!

This barn is about halfway between Lexington and Nicholasville:
