MUSIC: SXSW.com = loads of free music

The annual South By Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival is truly a Mardi Gras of music. In addition to WOXY.COM taking our Lounge Act to Austin next week, the fine folks have developed a kick-ass website that includes free MP3 downloads (128 kbs) of over 700 acts playing the Festival of nearly every genre imaginable. Truly a Texas-size heaping helping of free tunes from the well-known and the not-so-well known. Discovering new favorites is half of the fun. So if you're looking to beef up your iTunes, iPod or take a shot on playing A&R, you can't go wrong at http://2005.sxsw.com/music/showcases/

Last year I didn't even realize it was a festival - I just thought it was a site w. tons of sweet free mp3s.

Unless someone knows a faster way, goto http://2005.sxsw.com/music/showcases...005-03-19.html and view the lineup. Each artist has a web profile. Those offering downloads have a little cassette by their name.

This will indeed keep some people busy. A good Friday afternoon "project".

Wow, 236 new songs for the library, and the best part is the artists actually WANTED their songs downloaded! Thanks mike, it was truly a wonderful gift

BitTorrent available for all the showcasing bands.

This is much easier than downloading individual songs. Just use BitTorrent to grab all 2.6 GB of music: http://2005.sxsw.com/geekout/sxsw4pod/

Direct torrent link: http://player.sxsw.com/SXSW_2005_Sho...t_mp3s.torrent
