Updated Bible faces criticism

Story here
Quote:
"How would you like to read a Bible where you don't know what words you can trust? People memorize the Bible. They pray on it. They want to trust every word," says Grudem.
How can it be trusted anyway when only certain texts were subjectively canonized?

Why is any version of the Bible trusted? It's just a book...written by humans...translated by humans.

Get over it, dude. You're not reading the original Greek or Hebrew.

Honestly, if people read the Bible literally and not contextually they're tools. Who gives a damn about the translation if the underlying meaning remains?

If u believe that God was bhind the scriptures & u believe that God wants u to undrstand his words, then u will hav faith that the translation in ur hands was guided by God through his workers to speak to u in the way u needd to b spoken to by God.

That is the justification for the translation into the KJV as well as the NWV. I'm confused as to who on Earth is capabl of determinin which right-mindd folx can properly divide the word of God from their own will, but if u read the Bible in ur language,... & ur language isn't ancient aramic, Greek, or Hebrew, then u hav to hav faith that the rewriters of ur version were closely watchd & guided by God himself.

Which is what many believe.

Man, if thr...

Wait, I mean....

Person, if threads like this were around in the past, NO ONE would have taken the Bible literally and we'd all be ok!

I'm glad the tiny problems of 1 religion make it to the headlines of a national newpaper.

I remember when I used to get STONED and we ran out of rolling papers, so we used the pages of a Bible..

They work better than Zig Zag's!

why does the Bible need to be updated?

and who's updating it?

I can see it now...
"I will be with you always even unto the end of time"
to
"Yo, dude, where's my cross?"

perhaps it's a good thing if folks have gotten too stupid to understand it.....

Those of us who grew up Catholic during the 70's may remember a version of the bible that was supposed to be more hip:

Through an amazing feat of willpower I will avoid responding to this in an incredibly sarcastic manner, but I do invite others to insert their own jokes here.

Are you kidding? As long as people are too stupid to thinks for themselves they'll place all their unquestioning faith in their religious leaders, and do whatever they tell them to do. "Should we use a plane to kill mass numbers for God, or should we just reduce queers and non-Christain heathens to second class citizens? I don't know! I can't think for myself! Tell us, Fearless Religious Leader!" Next thing you know, they'll vote some jackass into the Presidency because of his supposed religious and moral convictions! Oh, wait... They did that already, didn't they? Oh, oh...

one thing about Protestantism was to unlock the Bible for everyone. Previously the Bible was only bein read by the privilaged & clergy. By then the scriptures had been changd thru xclusion & retranslation. The average Joe at the time couldn't investigate the validity of "The Word". So the liberation of the changd text was not real liberation.

As for them being too stupid to tell, we could always combat by creating our own religion based on the Bible.

No, we're not calling ourselves the Mellonites. Just wanted to head that one off at the pass. I never thought of Samurai as particularly religious anyway.

I have used empty beer cans and apples to make pipes in desperate situations.
