I had to re-format my hard drive, and instead of burning my mp3's in mp3 format, I burned them into cdR format...I was in a hurry and wasn't really thinking about what I was doing. anyway, now that I'm ready to rip them back onto hard disk, I was wondering if I should rip them as wav's or back to mp3 at highest possible bitrate. does it make a difference at this point? if they were at 192 and up originally, will they sound like poop if I rip them from cdR back to 320?

Hhmm...I would probably rip them at the rate they were before you burned them to CD-R. Even when you uncompress them to wav, it's still a wav from a 192 mp3 (for example). The sound quality probably won't be as good as it could have been if you rip them into a tighter compression. Being a sound junkie, I couldn't handle doing that. ;)

You were in a hurry to do something that would take more time. You must not have that many MP3s, or you must have used up a whole lot of CDRs.
MusicMatch will do the trick for you. The quality will be crap, but oh well. The only other thing you could do is get the original CDs and re-rip them to MP3.

no, there weren't a whole lot of mp3's on it, but I didn't want to lose them since I had no backups or cd's. less than two dozen. I ended up just ripping them back as wav's, I was just asking in case anyone had done anything that ponderous before and knew the best way to go with it.

Dunno, but don't use MusicMatch to rip any CD's when you can use Easy CD-DA Extractor 6. It's available on download.com or poikosoft.com. Awesome little piece of software for audio format conversion and CD ripping/recording.

yeah, why? curious.
I've always used CyberLink, which allows you to use winmedia to rip mp3's instead of wma's. the software's only like ten bucks I think. it's peachy.
