The much-delayed new album from PGMG was finally released 9-9 and it seems to have been worth the wait. The band's second effort, produced by the semi-legendary Phil Ek, offers a fresh spin on the style they began to develop on Good Health and seems to display definite growth for the band. The New Romance is slightly less "hard 'n fast" than previous PGMG tracks but offers vocalist Andrea Zollo (formerly of Area 51 and the Death Wish Kids) a chance to truly shine, and let me tell you, this girl's got a set of pipes on her. The guitar melodies are complex, beautiful and flawlessly executed by Nathan Thelen and Jay Clark. Former Murder City Devils bassist Derek Fudesco pumps out the well-conceived bass lines, and the drums -- I don't know who this Nick Dewitt character is, but he's my new hero. The drums on this album are just incredible.
This album simply rocks - though I must offer the caveat that it's a teeny bit emo. Not a bad thing, though - it still rocks my socks off. Going up on the list of top albums of the year for sure.
Other people compare this band to: At the Drive-In, Le Tigre, Fugazi, Sleater-Kinney, Discount
