Post your views on the series, the movies, the conventions, etc.

I admit to being a big fan of the TV shows (particularly DS9), but I don't really get the whole convention thing.

Viewing info:

Star Trek: Enterprise and Star Trek: Voyager currently air on broadcast TV in the Cincinnati area.

The latest series, Enterprise, airs on UPN Wednesdays at 8pm (all times Eastern), with occasional bonus episodes at 9pm and a reruns of Wednesday's 8pm show on the following Sunday at 8pm.

Voyager currently airs at 11:30pm weekdays on Cincinnati's UPN-25. If you've been wondering how the series ended (Did they ever get home?), tune in next week. The final episode airs in two parts on Monday and Tuesday (8/25 - 8/26), followed on Wednesday and Thursday by the two-part series opener.

Have you ever seen the movie "Trekkies"? It might give you some insight on the whole convention thing. If nothing else, you will laugh your ass off.

I miss prime-time Star Trek. I wish they'd come out with a new series. DS9 was my favorite and I'd really like to watch that all over again.

I've really been enjoying the Enterprise series - it's got a rough around the edges feel, very unlike the Next Generation series. They need to come up with new ideas though instead of rehashing old ones.

DS9 was great, I thought Cisco was great. The show seemed to turn into more of a soap opera towards the end, though.

I still find the original Trek very entertaining. Don't know if it's the campiness or nostalgia factor. Maybe it's just the fight music - DA DA DAAH DAAH DAAH DAAH DAAH DA DA DAAH DAAH :D

Real trekkies prefer to be called Trekers. Don't ask me how I know this.

There is a new series, it's called "Enterprise". It's on UPN, Weds nights.

I am not at Trekkie, nor Treker. I enjoy the original series & cast the most. I followed TNG for a while, but got lost towards the end because WXIX kept moving it around their broadcast schedule. I had the same problem watching DS9, which had more involved story arcs. @#$! WXIX would never keep it at the same night/time...or at least that's what I thought. I should begin to rent DS9 from Netflix. I enjoy the Trek films, and again prefer the "classic" crew. I didn't watch enough of "Enterprise" when we were able to receive TV signals at home (the reception sucks in Northside) and we have long since canceled cable.

I have been to several cons, although they were not specifically Trek cons. I am a sci fi geek (who also a puppet geek, a cartoon geek, and a comic geek) so I must attend a sci fi con every 5 - 7 years to retain my membership status. The fist con I attended was in the early 80's back in Boston. DeForest Kelly (McCoy) was the GoH. My brother and I didn't stay long enough to get in the HUGE line to meet him.
Several years ago I went to a con at the Cincinnati Convention Centre to meet a few of the actors from Babylon 5. Robin Curtis (Lt. Savik in the movies) was there, I guess she lives in the Cincy area. Info here (http://www.fansview.com/1999/tb99.htm)

For those of you who wish to witness a sci fi con first hand here are a couple Tri-State links:

I can't say if I am attending either of these events at this time, however if there is enough interest we may want to talk about a car pool to one of these cons. Let me know what you think...

You may think I am a trekker or trekkie because of my avatar, I consider myself neither, but I am a fan of TOS and NextGen.

I liked TOS better when they stayed on the ship, because the planets were always too hoky and any NextGen with the Borg or Q was great. The episodes where the holedeck went nuts were just revolting and showed a real lack of creativity.

I never really got into DS9 or Voyager (too many latex masks) and I honestly always forget about Enterprise, but I liked what I saw on a couple of shows.

I do like the movies, but there have been some duds. Since my interest in ST waned after NextGen I am not sure that I will have the same interest in the movies with the new crews.

I have never nor ever wanted to go to a ST convention, not even to make fun of people.

I was never into the original series. It was before my time. I think that every once in awhile Nick at night would play them, or some other cable company, and I'd watch marathons or something. The only one that even stands out to me is the Tribbles episode. I liked the Original movies though. They were all pretty cool.

I LOVED the Next Generation. I think the cast was really well rounded (except when they got rid of Crusher and brought that other Doctor on for a season or so). Patrick Stewart was awesome, as was Brent Spiner. I also always really liked Geordi, because he was the guy from Reading Rainbow, and I totally dug that show. I think that all of the TNG movies have been really well done too.

I liked Deep Space 9 a lot too. Again, a really good cast dynamic. I especially liked the one Cardassian who used to be a spy, and who was working as a...was it a Tailor?

I liked Voyager, but I only got to see the first season steadily. Like some of you have said, it was just hard keeping up with what time and night it was getting moved to, plus I was at Miami at the time, and we didn't even have cable my freshman year. I really loved the character of the Doctor.

I haven't seen any of the Enterprise shows, but Scott Bakula is a great actor, and I can see him being a good Captian. Too bad Al isn't there too though.

And we went to a convention at Hara once about 9 or so years ago. My mom thought it would be really cool and neat. It wasn't. There weren't even very many people dressed up or anything.

William Shatner was there and he was a jerkface. My sister made up a song about him being a "big fat gimp"

In my opinion, the only reason to watch any Star Trek was Bill Shatner. Other than that, I will give the franchise credit with inspiring Screeching Weasel's "Phasers on Kill", but it's not their best song by far, so I could still live without the show.

My day probably would've gone fine even if I hadn't bitched about Star Trek, but I just couldn't help myself, y'know?

I was mentioning the title of a movie, so don't get your panties in a bind. I am also aware of this thing you call a new series. I've seen a couple of episodes and thought it was faily lame.. Now that my cable has gone away, so has the UPN, so I'm pretty much restricted to the occasional late night Voyager episode on WB.

Voyager is on UPN 25 as well as Enterprise. The good news is they are increasing power sometime soon so the signal will reach much further and come in more clearly. The bad news is come October Voyager will no longer be broadcast on this station, and I'm almost positive that no other local station will be picking it up. However the new season of Enterprise looks like it may have promise.
