Well, there's Limewire (http://www.limewire.com/) which is java based. It's a well designed app and the pro version only costs $10, I just don't like java apps. I really dig gtk-gnutella (http://gtk-gnutella.sourceforge.net/)... it's open source, stable and free of spyware/adware crap and bloat. Both run on the Gnutella protocol.
Then there's giFT (http://gift.sourceforge.net/) which seems to have a ton of potential but is a bitch to set up and the documentation is lacking. But worth it if you can get it going. Runs on the OpenFT network, a clone of the FastTrack network of Kazaa fame.
InfoAnarchy.org (http://www.infoanarchy.org/) has a Wiki (http://www.infoanarchy.org/wiki/) with tons of links and info and all the major file sharing networks and clients. Definitely worth a look.
