I am using a Linksys remote wireless and XP. I downloaded a driver update last night. I am using a different computer right now and I am not the admin here, so for now I can't get the specifics on which upgrade it was. Everything was working fine until after the download. I rebooted and it knocked the wireless out of service. I called Linksys tech support and they walked me through all kinds of stuff to troubleshoot. They determined that it was the driver update that caused the wireless failure and suggested I call Microsoft and have them fix it. The Microsoft Knowledge Base has been unavailable all morning, probably because of that virus. Before I call them and get charged by phone for help, I want to see if anyone here can help. Thanks.

Well, what you want to do, matt, is adjust the fit of the dual overhead cams. They cannot interpolate between the mass of the dynamic generator and the flux capacitor. By linking these two together we can see that the thermal gyrations will render the system useless.

Long story short, I got nuthin.

If it's a driver issue between LinkSys and MS, then you're pretty much at the mercy of whichever company. The only thing I can suggest is to run XP System Restore and restore to a point before your driver update.

Thanks. I'm another one who is computer-dumb when it comes to stuff like this. My computer was a gift from a relative. All other computers I've used have been at work, so I always had IS to call upon. Clue me in on how to restore XP and when/how to stop it.

I found a phone number for free MS tech support, but it is long distance. Do you know of an 800 #?

For the "computer-dumb" there is always Help on the start menu. Open Help and type in a search for System Restore and you will get all kinds of info. Basically, XP takes an occasional "snapshot" of all of your important os files, setting, drivers, etc. and stores it away. You can revert back to any of those "Restore Points" by clicking Start-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Restore. Choose "Restore my computer to an earlier time" and next and it will show you all available restore points. Choose one right before the date that you installed the new driver. Be careful though. If you frequently install stuff on your PC, anything that was installed after the restore point was created probably won't work. Hope this helps.

I don't know any numbers for MS. I'd rather stab myself in the eye with a spork than spend all day on the phone with those guys.

Cool. It worked. The flux capacitor has been successfully restored to the required 1.21Gw. Thanks for the help.

i had a similar problem with my wireless card after installing a windows update software for wireless. so be careful of these incompatibilities with the microsoft update and your hardware.

So, will this happen with every windows upgrade? Are there any workarounds?

Good lord, don't call Microsoft! After sitting on hold for over an hour, some low level tech will tell you to reformat your hard drive once they find out you are Joe Average pc user. But I am in tech support myself so I am biased.

windows update, it's a feature in windows that updates drivers and such. just be careful and notice what you are installing. you can go back and uninstall bad patches if things go haywire later.
