Does anyone have it yet? I almost bought it today for $9.98 at Target....but, wanted to hear some reviews first.

If you go to www.cduniverse.com you can hear about 10 seconds of every song on the album. In fact, at CD Universe, you can listen to about 10 seconds of every track on just about ANY CD. At CD Now, they will only allow you like the first 4 or 5 tracks. CD Universe is cheaper than CD Now anyway.

Just purchased it today....definitely worth your $10. The whole record has the same feel as "Just Because", but doesn't seem redundant at all. Had read a couple of reviews where they said that Jane's seems to have picked up where they left off & I'd have to agree. Reminds me of The Cult taking several years off and coming back with a ROAR. Also, the cd just rolls. I couldn't believe how quickly I got through my first listen--it's under 50 minutes, but feels like 10 or 15.
It's so great to hear something that stands out from the crowd of junk. Think you'll like this one! :)

after 2 thorough listens, i have to say i'm disappointed.
does it sound like jane's.......yes
does it rock.....sort of
maybe i expected too much, but i'm just not impressed. this album sounds rushed. even the lack of interesting cover art indicates to me that perry and the boys just wanted to put a record out, fast. the excellent production does not, in my ears, make up for the lack of heart in these 11 songs. the beauty of the previous 3 jane's records, in my opinion, was the heroin infused energy with which perry wrote/sang and dave navarro played. that energy is obviously missing now that everybody is sobre. stephen perkins does not disappoint, damn he can bang some drums.
i'll continue to listen and see if it grows on me any. i have a feeling it will, but it will just take a little time for this new generation jane's addiction to sink in.
one interesting note: david j gets a writing credit on the title track and a thank you from the band. i know that stephen perkins was briefly affiliated with love and rockets (he played on their sweet f a record), but it's cool to see that collaboration carry over.

don't get me wrong, i'm not wishing addiction on anybody.
all i'm saying is that there is an element missing in the music. my opinion is that altered states is that missing element.

thanks for the tip lando. i went to target and picked up a copy, along with hot hot heat. both ten bucks.
i didn't realy concentrate on my first listen thru strays, so i'll have to get back with ya. does sound overproduced though.

yeah, overproduced to the point that bob ezrin gets writing credit.
i shelled the extra dough for the dvd to. it was wrapped in opaque plastic, so i was hoping "limited edition" might mean "better cover art"....but no.
i listened again last night, and it is growing on me. tracks 1-5 especially.

I'm not impressed. I really had higher (not high) expectaions for this disc. There are hints of Jane's of old, but it might as well be Perry singing for Live. I just hope that Axl doesn't come along and make Jane's look bad. Kevin Shields, where are you?

i still don't think it's actually jane's till he comes back and he says he won't.

I'm listening to it right now, and I'm about halfway through it. Peedub's negative review had lowered my expectations, and that's probably a good thing....this cd is really fun. Definitely not their best, and slightly overproduced, but still a great listen so far.
