I think I may have found a reason to love cable again...

Saw a thing about this show on ET over the weekend and laughed my ass off--it just looks highly entertaining.

They've been showing previews for weeks on NBC. does NBC own Bravo....or something? anyway, yea it looks like it could be funny. I'll have to see one to find out.

I was skeptical about this at first. All we need is a show with five exagerrated, caricatured Nathan Lane's running around shreiking...
This however, was brilliant.
Equal parts Iron Chef, The Man Show, Entertainment Tonite, Trading Spaces and McGyver. I laughed my arse off. It wasn't over the top and (GASP) I actually learned some things that i'm sure girlfriends have been telling me for years (flat front pants have a slimming effect, go figure?).
The hosts have very different personality types which makes it work, and there's even one hottie that I'm sure all you ladies will be convinced is straight (or that you can convince him otherwise ;)
As a side note, I'm sure it inflamed middle america and folks like the CCV to no end. Which makes me smile. There will be editorials. I hope Bravo ignores them (from the look of their other new program, basically "The Bachelor" with all men, they don't give a sh*t anyway.)
I want five gay men to come to my house.
My kitchen's a mess and I have no idea what exfoliate means.

I have not seen the show but plan on watching. Excellent idea. I always find myself attracted to gay men. I think due to good fashion sense and being able to carry themselves. (I realize this is streotyping but hoping you all know I am just generalizing) But if straight men would just learn that it's great to take care of yourself and paint those toenails than wow....watch out, i'm on the prowl.:D

Last night's episode just made me roar! That said, the Fab 5 really did transform Butch, didn't they? He was kinda scary looking before the makeover, and omigod that flat was a disaster area. Once Butch and the flat were cleaned up though, WOW!
There is a programme in England called "Life Laundry" which is similar (okay, minus the queer eyes) and the homes the presenters go into and transform are outrageous. They make Butch's former flat a minimal exhibition in comparison. There was one lady on the show who had over 500 pairs of shoes and her clothing covered every inch of her two story home. Watching her have to sort through and eliminate 480 pairs of shoes was priceless. God I hope they start airing the programme over here.

Yes NBC (actually GE who owns both NBC & Bravo) purchased Bravo earlier this year
Being in the middle of nowhere, Bravo is only on digital cable here (Cox Communication sucks! - we don't have food network either at all)
so I haven't been able to see any of it

Isn't this on NBC after Will and Grace? I was just wondering because I saw a commercial for it on NBC and we get that fine without cable.

Yeah, but it's a one-time only deal for now. I'm sure if it does well NBC will pick it up.
As for the show, it's funny as hell. But speaking for slobby men everywhere, it's not that the majority of us don't know these things, it's that we don't care. Too much effort. It's nice too have the $$ and time to do the one-time makeover deal, but I'm sure that within 3 months those guys look exactly like they did before the show.
Yeah, flat-front pants can be slimming if you are in decent shape. If not, they are uncomfortable as hell and make your thighs look like plump sausages in a too-small casing. And if you wear a wallet, the wallet ruins the whole line of the pants. Flat-front pants lose their creases faster, too.

What are flat front pants? Like not pleated? If so, all I wear are flat front pants and I don't look skinny.
I wish I had pleated jeans. That'd be so awesome. I'd wear them with sweatshirts airbrushed with great care in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The sweatshirts would probably have Christmas motifs. With flashing lights connected to a battery pack carefully stitched into the left armpit.

Or you could get one that says "I'm with stoopid" and has an arrow pointing (anywhere but at yourself). Those are the best air brushed shirt. That, or a dead gangsta rapper.

Well, it was on NBC last night and the wife and I watched it. I thought it was pretty freakin' hillarious. It was the one with Butch that I think MissKitty mentioned. I especially liked the part where they were going through his clothes closet with tongs and they boiled his jock strap. The dialogue cracked my shit up...."I think you need to add some soy sauce to that", "I think there already was some soy sauce on it...soy sauce or boy sauce, I can't tell the difference". :p
We started talking about how with shows like Will and Grace and now this being shown on the networks, it exhibits a never before seen tolereance for the gay lifestyle. I just like the fact that shows like this portray different facets of that lifestyle and don't dwell on the over-flamboyant gay man, which tends to be the stereotype.

We missed it lastnight, I wanted to see it really bad but exhaustion put me to bed before it came on. My sister has taped the first 3 episodes off bravo and is bringing them to me next week :D I can't wait! Wasn't the episode with Butch the one where he's doing the gallery opening? The most recent one my sister told me about what the guys making over someone who wanted to propose to his lady, she said it was a great one...

I think the guy featured on the next episode proposes and I wondered if she says no, because it shows a preview with the Fab 5 watching with their jaws hanging open.
On the heavy metal dude transformation, did that girlfriend fit the stereotype of a Jersey girl or what? She was kind of bitchy and I thought the guy was pretty sweet, he even seemed to like all the attention he was getting from the fashion guy.

I liked the 'a hooker in jersey wants her boots back' comment... might be wrong on the location of the hooker but that was the gist of it. haha. those guys are hilarious.

Fun show. Good to see the Fab Five isn't completely made up of stereotypical gay men. Wish this one was on NBC regularly.

Caught two episodes of this over the weekend and they were great fun to watch. As someone else said, I learned a couple things, too. I seriously need the Fab 5 to come to my house, clean up and get me some decent threads.
The two eps I saw were the long-haired dude with the exceptionally bitchy gf, and one of a slightly overweight married guy with kids who wanted to impress his wife. The long-haired ep was the best. The most flamboyant of the Fab 5 is the funniest one as well. The blonde dude. Calls it like he sees it and cracks me up every time.
This is one to add to my must watch list.

I agree with everyone's assessment of the show, and yes the blonde guy takes the cake.
I've only seen the entire 'artist' show (the crack den episode), but it was hysterical, and like BTree said, you learn some things.
Guess I'll be off to Wilson's leather soon for that damn nice jacket.

I haven't seen this show yet, but I was reading an interview with Carson Kressley, and he said "I remember when I was little, I so wanted to be an interior designer or a fashion designer, and it didn’t seem like an option because it was too gay..."
Too gay to be an interior designer!?

It was probably a joke, since Carson is the sarcastic funnyman of the Fab 5.
Besides, Christopher Lowell has cornered the 'too gay interior designer' market.
Anyway, I caught up on all the episodes on Sunday, since they ran a marathon on Bravo.
One of my favorite quotes was from the cowboy episode: 'With that hat on you could be George Strait.' '.....or George Gay.' 'AH! George Gaaaaaay. I like that.'

I think I saw something in the 8/4 USA Today about Jay Leno being improved by the Fab Five. I think the blurb said this was to take place late next week with segments to air on two episodes of The Tonight Show. Can't find much about it today except a brief reference at
http://www.adage.com/news.cms?newsId=38444
If it's going to air, tho, I'm sure NBC will hype it to death.

as a grrl whose been surrounded by gay guys for the last 8-10 yrs, i gotta say that these guys are awful. i only like kyan & ted, the grooming & food guys. i watched 2 episodes on bravo the other nite, and it wasn't that great, although i did like the show they did on their crew member... i think that reinforcing stereotypes of gay men just does more to segregate them from "normal" folks...and that kinda sucks...but at the same time, i think it's good to have more varied representations of queer folks in popular culture...i like ted because he's not overtly flamboyant and could easily be taken as effeminate straight guy. i'm wondering where all the lesbians on tv went though...

i think the interior design guy could pass as straight before any of them. they work him to death every episode. the others are off having wine at a nice restaurant while he is sweating his butt off getting the digs together.
