A freind of mine at work saw The Breaks in some dive in Phoenix and told me that if I didn't go to The Garage to check them out I would regret it forever. The second these guys staggered onto the stage you could feel this film of rock & roll abandon crawling up your spine, into every opening in your body- sucking you in. A primal smacking of the drums and bass was followed by the sonic blast of guitars and the flailing call to rock and roll by the best front man I've seen in god knows how long. They play staright ahead rock and roll, raw, honest, garage blues soulful ass shaking rock and roll! I've seen a lot of bands in these LA dives over the years but this is the first time I've felt like I was witnessing something special. I kept thinking, this must have been what it was like for all those lucky bastards that caught an unknown Rolling Stones in some London pub or The Stooges at some little free University show in Ann Arbor. This band was too good to be playing there that night, and everyone in the room knew it. They are one of those rare hidden gems sent down to restore our faith in rock and roll!
