This looks to be a way-cool show. Sure beats Bill Goodman's Gun & Knife show, I reckon.
I've never seen either in concert, so I think I'm gonna go peep it out.

My lady is a HUGE Foo fan, so we already have our tickets. I' must be gettin' old, because we have floor seats and I'm dreading it. I'd rather have gotten seats just off the floor, and level with the stage. *sigh*

Hmm... those two performers seem not-so related. My sister saw Pete at Bogarts and said it was just way too mellow and not exciting.
Mmmmm - Dave GrOHHHhl.

I saw Foo Fighters way back when at the Garage with Supergrass. Great fuckin' show all the way around. I actually sprained my ankle and had to be driven home. Awesome.

Agreed. Nonetheless, I plan to go and enjoy this show.

I think it'll be a super fun show.
Pete Yorn should at least be a little more rested than the Bogart's show last summer. I mean, he WAS totally amazing at that Top Cats show the year before that.
I've never seen Foo before though, and I'm super excited!
Too bad we have to go to the ghetto fablous Salem Mall area to see them though

Make sure you stop by the Salem Mall on your way out here...
Salem Mall, home of the DMV's Salem Mall branch!

Pete Yorn live =
a) paint drying
b) grass growing
c) a video of paint drying and grass growing
Worst live act I saw last year. A bored, detached lead singer whose idea of charisma is shaking a mopful of hair in front of a bunch of lights (hey Pete, Jesus & Mary Chain called, they want their stage lights back). And his band was The Very Definition of Hack -- I've seen bad local bands with better chops. At least Superdrag opened, so the night wasn't a total loss.
And now he has a new record full of mediocre material to showcase! "If you wanna burri-to, you can have another bite of mine." Genius.
Foos should be good, though.

Pete Yorn's show last year at Bogart's indeed was a very big disappointment, in my opinion. But when I saw him at TopCats a few years back, I thought that show was very good. So go figure...
And I haven't completely decided my opinion on his new album. It isn't up to par with MFTMA, but then again, when your debut album is that good, it is sometimes tought to improve upon it.

Tickets were purchased today, I'll be there, as will Juliana, since she bought the tickets and all.

Nice guy -- laying it at poor Juliana's feet so you'll have an excuse if the show sucks. (Hopefully, it won't.)

I figure that if it does, I'll slap a pack of Mentos into your hand so you can sneak up on stage and show them how it's done.

I got my tickets over the weekend. Or, my friend did. Or, she damned well better have!
Should be most excellent -- you just know in the cockles of your soul that the Foos will rock down the howse.
Right or wrong, I sort of put Bob Schneider and Pete Yorn in the same weight class. I haven't seen Pete but have seen Bob and he was fantastic. I'm thinking Pete'll be good too.

I guess I'm still stuck way back on the fact that Hara arena still exists and that bands are still allowing themselves to be booked there. I will never again set foot in that hellhole. I saw 2 shows there round about 1994 - Breeders and the Smashing Pumpkins. I don't remember a THING about the shows, just being prodded like cattle around the place and finally illegally breaking out and escaping under the rail to the floor area and running wildly into the crowd so as not to be caught.

I'm more than a little biased here, but I can't wait for this show. Foo Fighters are always a good time live and I would (and have) travel to any city for Pete.
Hara is always a clusterfuck, but it reminds me of my high school concert-goin' days so I'm kind of looking forward to seeing a show there again.

Yeah that's sorta how I feel too. I know Hara sucks and all but I haven't been there for at least 10 years when I lived in Dayton for part of my childhood. In fact, I saw my first concert there ever, The Kinks (with Donny Iris opening). So, this will be a sort of homecoming.

Hara arena scares me, I have to miss this one b/c of a silly family reunion (anyone got a bulletproof vest?) dunno which will be more exciting...

hara arena blows. except my grandma works there so sometimes she gets free tickets to stuff. so maybe i can go to this for free. she sometimes gets to be a ticket-taker for the toughman competitions. and also the tractor pulls which are usually on sunday! sunday! sunday! and the first 500 kids get a free wiffleball bat or pony melt.

Just the thought of Dave Purcell cramming mentos down Dave Grohl's throat was worth getting up this morning.

Mine, too. 'Course I was seeing bands like Exodus and Helloween there...
Does the Nutter Center still exist? Why wouldn't they have booked there?

When did My Morning Jacket get added to the bill?
Are the Special Goodness still going doing the tour?
Inquiring minds want to know.

I thought I'd bump this since thread the show is this week, and I thought I'd post a review (http://www.nytimes.com/2003/07/05/arts/music/05FOO.html) from today's NYT of a NYC show they did last week, that I came across. Sounds like Foos are playing pretty tight these days, which is good to hear. Also, kinda interesting that Pete Yorn is starting to rock out a little more. I hope he plays She Bangs the Drum in the set here too, 'cause that's a favorite of mine.
Looking forward to this!

Looks like a few of us are going to this. I haven't been to Hara for at least 10-15 years, so I don't know it too well. But, if someone knows a good landmark inside Hara, we should try to meet up for a beer or something before the Foos come out.
If Big Sugar, Bronzetree and DudeMan are all going, we will have to see if we can get Duemellon to show up too! In fact, Sug, mebbe you should bring Due along as your 'plus-one'. ;)

It's in two days. I'll be with the little lady and I'm not sure where we'll be (we have floor tix, but will most likely pick a seat), but I'd be up for at least saying hey to each other.

Okay, since we're all too lazy to come up with a 'hi' meeting place... I'll be wearing a mustard-yellow t-shirt that has a tilted smiley face on the left breast, and will most likely be found buying a beer before the show, after the first warm-up and after the 2nd warm-up. Say howdy if you see me.

How about we meet after the first and before the second band, in the lobby, but just outside the main entrance to the floor? I've no idea what I'll be wearing, but I'll look for the tilted smiley on mustard yellow.
I know what all the others on this thread that are going look like, so if y'all wanna meet up for a quick hello...

I'm wearing a gray t shirt with a picture of a joystick on the front that says "trigga happy"
Kwjibo is wearing a ....shirt. I don't know, look for the person WITH the cool girl wearing the trigga happy shirt.

Great show. Shame no one met up at the designated spot. I did, however, find Kwyjibo and Juliana.
As much as they completely blew the roof off the joint, I'd have to say my favorite part was in the middle of, what was it, Monkeywrench? The one where they were doing a jam and Grohl started fucking around. He totally hijacked the song for a good ten minutes. Had me in tears. Reminded me of old band practices.
Anyway, not the biggest Foo fan in the world, but they were damned good live. My lady sure did have a good time and so did I.
DudeMan
11 Jul 2003, 10:12 AM
Agreed -- great show! The Foos were Foo-ing it up, and Dave Grohl is a great showman and you just know would be a fun guy to hang out & drink a beer with. I liked that they ended on my favorite song, Everlong.
Pete Yorn was really good too. I like the electrified Pete. And he played She Bangs the Drum, which is my favorite Stone Roses song.
And Hara... my gawd, the Sledger was not at all exaggerating. It was like going back in time. I thought for a while there I might run into my 14-year-old self wearing a rat-tail and a black Kinks t-shirt with 'Superman' on the front.
And finally... like I told you in my PM, Bronze, I did a run-by at least 5 times at the entrance both before and after Yorn. So many times, in fact, that someone stopped me and told me where the bathroom was, 'cause he thought I was looking for it. Guess it didn't help that I don't know what you look like, but I'm sorry I missed you guys...
Bronzetree
11 Jul 2003, 10:17 AM
<<<------ I look like that. I was looking for your yeller shirt and never saw it. I also did a quick run by of that scene several times, but stood there a good ten minutes right after My Morning Jacket was through. S'all good. Another time.
Sorry, I didn't see the PM until just now. Not sure why it didn't pop up this morning when I logged on. Weird.

I thought the show was pretty wicked.
For some dumb reason, I didn't expect the mosh pit that I ended up in the middle of. Luckily, I held my own, it seems as though those Reel Big Fish and Mighty Mighty Bosstones shows were good training.
Pete Yorn was a LOT better than the last Bogarts show. I guess he's not totally worked to death by Columbia at the moment.
The Foos were brilliant. Seriously, I loved them
My Morning Jacket were surprisingly good too, so like I said, it was pretty damn wicked.
