there is a belief that the local scene is beset with pettiness and backbiting, that it excludes people and views of a certain variety, and generally, that the local scene is little more than a conservative clique.

immediately, upon the initial posting(s), the ugly head rears itself, the hydra of too kool/too hip/overbored. this is unfortunate, for what is being undertaken here is really not about playlists and endless don henley tunes. the implications go far past this.

if this is the age of information, then those who control the information in effect, control the discourse. when an increasing amount of the market share is controlled by a few media giants who are in bed with the sitting regime, is it not reasonable then to think that the information is going to be spun favorable toward that regime, or dissent will be repressed.

this is about the future of rock n roll/ this is about the future, period. and if we can't stop sniping at each other long enough to stop this progression toward an corporate fascism, then it's not gonna matter whose station sucks.

why was discussion closed on free the music. why was i not allowed to say my peace, since i am accused of advertising. so much for discourse.

matt sledge is correct about the recent fcc ruling: and i'm sure woxy is not planning on selling out any time soon. but as the number of independent stations fall by the wayside, surely you can see concern. if any one can remember what yer town was like before walmart, biggs, etc. and then what happened to the small merchants after, the principle is the same. we can't let that happen to the people's airwaves. we need the independents!

bt is rightfully angry, and has every right to shout about it! people of the generation born in the seventies or during reagan are discovering that the country isn't theirs any more, that their future is uncertain, that they are being locked out by forces beyond their control. in his case, its directed toward radio, and thus, has a bearing on us all.

bt is also correct in that this benefit is to protect woxy's right and need to exist, regardless of whether they play the "the right music" or not. but i do not feel that this pettiness is getting us anywhere other than right into the hands of the media juggernaut. cut out all this bullshit right now, and let's get some grass roots action going. this thing is for us all, and we could try to work together for a change.

The best way to get grass-roots support? Get some people who know how to deal with the public to do your advertising. Also, try not to affiliate yourself with people who trash talk the venue in which you're advertising. Also, offer free soft drinks and snacks.

THIS SNIPING HAS GOT TO STOP, ON BOTH SIDES, OR NOTHING GETS DONE...

SNACKS AND SOFTDRINKS...I SUGGEST PEOPLE AVAIL THEMSELVES OF THE FINE SPIRITS AND ALES , NOT TO MENTION THE FRIENDLY BARKEEPS, AT THE SOUTHGATE HOUSE. ALSO, WHILE THE PURPOSE IS SERIOUS, THE EVENT DOESN'T HAVE TO SEEM LIKE THE POLITBURO. SOMEBODY SAID YESTERDAY ON THE OTHER THREAD, LET'S PARTY, SO, I SUGGEST WE DO!

Strangely, before this ever got posted, I'd already planned to go.

I don't think anyone was sniping at your cause, Jon. It was the presentation. Especially by Mr. Thacker of the Big Mouth Thackers. I know, I know, he's not the show's organizer, but we had a similar thread dealing with a no budget film festival some months back and it was oddly curious that several new posters signed up on the same day to say the same things, often berating other posters who didn't appreciate the tone in which they were addressed, which resulted in a lot of name calling and threats of fisticuffs. I'm sure you can see why folks might be a bit pensive.

Again, I think people were put off by the guerilla presentation. Think about it. Just as you don't appreciate Corporate America shoving their opinions, not to mention their soft drinks, music, fashion and whatever else down YOUR throat, neither do people you're attempting to reach about a worthy cause appreciate having it shoved down THEIRS. Just something to consider is all.

I admit, it's a very admirable cause and something I'm actually behind you on. Unfrotunately, I won't be able to make it to the show, but I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks bronze, but this wasn't my thread to begin with. You need to go see the Wizard.

not sure i understand what you're saying here. i saw a thread about what should be a great show for a worthy cause turn into a shouting match about how much WOXY sucks, which seems a bit ridiculous, given as this a 97x message board. whatever.

i don't think i saw much conservative exclusion, just a couple folks who didn't really like hearing what they believe in trashed.

um.. if i'm reading sledge's 'closing' post right, it was so that jon could start a new thread for the festival, one that wont be hijacked by random folks' flames..

if everyone would calm down and read, they'd see that mr. thacker doesn't have anything to do with the show, and that Jon's posts were polite and dead on.

see you at the show.

I think that if you read Bond's post, you'll realize that he really is insane.

People, come to the show, just to see why Coltrane Motion isn't in heavy rotation on Q102.

It's not because of Infinity/ClearChannel politics...It's not because of payola or some plan by the man to hold the Motion down.

It's..well....have you ever seen the movie The Ring? Coltrane motion is somewhat like that. It gets into your head and you become mortal. Everyone who listens to Coltrane Motion will die one day.
That's why they don't play it. Out of the goodness of their hearts and concern for humanity.

Why they don't play Morals Galore...now that I have NO idea on.

It's not deadly...go figure.

nazism is no fun.

is this post about local bands? if so most local bands that cant get air time probably are not played for good reason. you wiil always have bands that slip threw because of someone they know. and you will have bands that dont come across when they should rule the world. but dont be sad just go back to the drawing board, come back with something better. nate
