So, I was in Lousiville over the weekend and took advantage of this and went cd shopping. (EarXtacy is far superb to any cd store that Lexington, Ky has to offer.) Anyway, I picked up a couple Sigur Ros cds that I didn't have, the new Rimur ep being one of them. I was very excited about this disc, knowing that it followed the () cd, which I am obsessed with.
The cd has a little sticker on the front of the packaging that reads, "Sigur Ros featuring Steindor Andersen. Traditional Icelandic chanting with musical accompaniment."
This guy is basically just chanting, the kind of chanting that we've all heard. There are 6 tracks on the cd and 3 of them have very little to no music. The rest of it feels very layered, meaning the chanting and the music seem so separate from one another. Unfortunately, the music seems to take a backseat to the vocals, by being overpowered and drowned out by the chanting.
On track 3 the vocals and music intertwine better than on any of the others. This track is the strongest on the cd.
Basically, I don't get it. I would much rather hear the heavenly voice of that beautiful man with my Sigur Ros.
Has anyone else heard this ep? What am I missing?
