I loved this movie!!! We saw it yesterday and enjoyed the whole thing (didn't even mind the kid next to us freaking out anytime something happened). The characters were very well developed, the animation fabulous as always, and well--it's Albert Brooks how can you go wrong? There's stuff for the adults and stuff for the kids, the Hitchcockian bits are priceless. The only downside was no blooper reel, maybe when it reaches second run...

Using Ct's scale, I give it 4.5 out of 5 cheese doodles

4.75 cheese curls (my review isn't as good as the real thing) from me! I loved the sharks, the starfish (never would have imagined Allison Janey as having a good voice for animation voice-over), and the sea turtles - DUDE!

Pixar is the bestest!!!

Any of the scenes with the sea turtles, sharks, and the gulls were great...who knew just saying "mine?" could mean so much?

we loved it too!!

I thought the story was really fresh. A father and son story I've never seen or read before.....a single dad!!!

And the timing great....close to Father's Day.

ya generally when we see a father as the central point of a movie he is fumbling and finding his way around being a parent which he achieves at the end. marlin was a confident father from the get go, just overprotective. and his being overprotective was warrented too with his losing his other kids and nemo having a disability. strong fatherly men were focussed on throughout the movie including the male teacher and gil.

and let me be the first to say that ellen degeneris is funny as hell in this movie, my god she had me in stitches. unusual as well for a woman to have the funny side kick roll.

wonderful!

As a fan of all things animated, and especially computer animated, I can't wait to see this one. The previews look spectacular. I'm glad to hear that all the other elements of the movie hold up to the stunning visuals.

I haven't gone to see it yet... I hear they're showing Pixar's 1989 'Knick Knack' short before the movie. Seems appropriate - the short has a 'welcome to the summer' vibe to it.

But what I found odd was, they reduced (or removed?) the bikini-clad souvenir girl's breasts. They were originally huge spheres planted on her chest, but fans who have seen it have said they're much smaller now.

So either they 'digitally' removed the boobs, or I think they took the original source file and took them out, and just re-rendered it.

I doubt this was Pixar's decision. DISNEY?!?!???

knick knack was pretty damn funny. actually the girl had no breasts at all, it was like a wooden toy with the bikini pained on. it didn't seem to distract from the short at all in my mind. and not a bad edit seeing as how the majority of the audience is going to be kids.

And we certainly wouldn't want our kids to see breasts.

it's not about their just seeing breasts, its about their being bombarded in the media with abnormally large breasts on the "ideal" woman. hell i love breasts and have no problem with them being seen even nude, but if we can do anything to tell our girls that they have value without a 42 DDD and it does not affect the outcome of something like this, i am all for it.

I am excited to see this flick. Unfortunately, my kids (7 and 4) saw it with their grandma and weren't really impressed, which surprised me. I am planning on dragging their butts back just because I want to see it. I wonder if a second showing will increase the number of the cheese doodles in their reviews????

Unfortunately, probably not...

Most of the good jokes are over the kids heads....

That was the best part of the movie.

I also enjoyed... "Hey, where you goin? Well, I'll tell you: P. Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney. What's that? I'll tell you again: P. Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney. I don't know why you keep asking, but I'll keep tellin': P. Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney...."

My wife and I saw it Tuesday afternoon. We forgot that school's out and had to put up with the tots. Squeeking straw sounds drive me bonkers!

Oh, about the film. Overall, very good. I didn't like the "I hate you" line...I guess it's to real world for me when an animated fish-boy tells his only parent that he hates him. I'll get over it.

The thing that puzzled me is that NONE of the adults in the theatre GOT the jokes! Nobody laughed except Lara & I!!! WTF!
Are people that ashamed of laughter? Weird, dude.

We stayed to watched the credits roll while the theatre emptied. If you haven't done this, stay in your seat next time. ;)

I'm not sure if this is the movie they were talking about or not, but some of the Pixar guys said they didn't do a blooper reel because you can only do the same joke so many times before it's old, and the blooper reel is old. I dunno if I agree with 'em, but there ya go.

Very funny! Saw it Saturday night, and it was a good time. good range of humor, something for just about every age range. We didn't stick aroung for the whole credits, since we heard there was no blooper reel. Mayhap we should have...

This may have been the best flick I've seen all year. Ellen's character was starting to grate on me a tad towards the latter half until the whale-speak bit. Hilarious! Also liked Geoffrey Rush, Willem Dafoe & Brad Garrett.

Did anyone catch the trailer for Pixar's Christmas movie about the bears? Can't remember the name but as I was laughing at the bickering moose in the trailer, it hit me: it's Bob & Doug McKenzie!

"If you're only going to see one movie this year...."

"Yeah, they're gonna see a movie in, like, two minutes..."

Can't wait.

I think that's Pixar's 2004 Christmas release..

Nemo was genius. I can't wait to see it again. Ellen's lines were outstanding, and her delivery is incredible..

This comes out on DVD today. It is the first movie I have EVER pre-ordered. I'm sooooooooooooooooo excited to see it again and again and again....

PS:
A friend just watched MONSTERS, INC. on DVD for the first time in a while and said that he noticed that Nemo was one of the toys that Boo threw out of her toy box. How cool is that?

Hey I liked it too,

I really enjoyed all the subtle jokes, like when the lobsters(or crabs, but not clams) talked like they were from New England. Stuff like that is really funny to me.

LIKE WHOA DUDE!
the sea turtles were cool too.

The DVD and the VHS are both 14.99 at Target this week. I think it's $20 everyplace else. SUpposedly it's harder to find on VHS though. Some of my students said that a few places they looked *only* had DVD

Wow! I pre-ordered at Blockbuster for $30 - but, I was "awarded" 7 free movie rentals (including New Releases). So, I get to catch up on a ton of movies that I missed recently and take NEMO home for around $1.

Bought and watched it last night. Excellent movie. A while ago, I was very anti-CGI, but movies like this are bringing me around. Ellen DeGeneres was definitely the funniest part of the movie and the animation was spectacular. Only thing that bugs me is animated movies like this are becoming kind of formulaic in their storylines. Why does someone always have to die, for instance?

Anyway, that didn't detract much from the fact that I really dug it.

Oh, and I picked it up at Best Buy for $15.99. Shoulda read this thread first to save myself a buck. ;)

hey, nobody died in Monster's Inc. or Toy Story, did they?

Someday, Pixar will make a bad movie. it's ineveitable. but I'm enjoying the streak of excellence so far. every movie they've put out has been amazing.

I've been subjected to this movie four times since we brought the dvd home, and I must say...

I'm ga-ga over this film. when we saw it in its theatrical release, I liked it. when we watched it for the first time on dvd, I really liked it. when we watched it the night before last for the second time, I loved it. and after watching it for the fourth time tonight (you know how kids watch their movies over and over), I'm thinking I haven't loved a movie this much since Fox & the Hound when I was very little. I'm noticing things I hadn't noticed before, like how utterly perfect and amazing the musical score is. or how Dafoe's performance is subtly captivating. or how hilarious the French crawdad is, even in his limited screentime. and Nigel, recounting Marlin's adventures to Nemo, probably among the most emotionally effective scenes in Disney history.

and of course, as usual, Ellen is pure comic genuis. funnier every time I watch it.

so there's my review. and it probably won't do the movie justice after seeing it yet again.

Did you enjoy 'A Bug's Life'? I think it's their weakest one, but then again, I've not seen 'Monster's Inc.'.

i haven't seen A Bug's Life but you absolutely HAVE to watch Monster's Inc. it is sooooo funny and great.
I steal my 2 year old brother's Monster's Inc dvd every so often so my roommates and I can watch it over and over.

I just got my copy of Finding Nemo in the mail today. I was so anxious to see it though that, even though I knew it was on its way, I rented it on Sunday. I think the roommates and I watched it like 4 times before we took it back.
i am in love with Ellen Degeneres. She is a comic genius. I loved all the fish in the fishtank. And especially the octopi in the beginning and ends, "Awww, you guys made me ink!"

I loved that guy. We rented it this past weekend, and while I liked it a whole lot, it still didn't top Toy Story 2 for me.

I'm sure we'll be buying it soon -- I usually get stuff used at Blockbuster -- and I'll probably like it more after a few viewings.

I took my son to see "Finding Nemo" and we both enjoyed it.

However, am I the only one who's a little freaked out that the main character's name spelled backwards is OMEN?
