http://www.friendster.com

I've got a bunch of friends who want me to sign up.

I don't mind setting up an e-mail account for spam purposes, but you have to give a real name as well. Well I suppose you could give a fake name, but the concept only works if you give your real name.

Anyone tried this service?

So no one's gonna help me out, huh? Bastards!

I signed up anyway.

It's kind of interesting. Works on the whole Six Degrees of Separation thing. Still suspicious of what spam or stalkers I might get though. . .

Sheesh. You only gave us a day to try to help! I'm just glad this thread wasn't titled "Has anyone tried crack?" or else RichmondVA might be hitting the pipe right now, just because it's a slow day here.

P.S. I've never heard of Friendster.

I saw a link to a Friendster story recently on themorningnews.org and decided to check it out. Seems like a decent concept. Looks free, at least so far.

The problem, from what I can see, is that it's a bit like the old MCI strategy : to get anything out of it, you have to recruit your friends (and/or family) to join as well. So people who don't mind doing that may have some luck with it.

I'm not really into asking people to join third-party sites, tho, so I don't think it's for me.

I thought this was funny from Moby.com:

No Mo Friendster
5/31/2003 - New York City

well, someone is pretending to be me on 'friendster'.
so allow me to say:
a-i'm not on 'friendster'.
b-to be honest with you, i don't even know what 'friendster' is.
i'm sure it's very nice, but i'm ignorant and i don't know what it is.
so if someone pretends to be me on 'friendster' please be aware of the fact that it isn't me.
thanks

a friend of mine recently sent me an invite for friendster and then bugged me until i signed up. i don't really get it so far. i don't really care to meet random people over the internet. i already spend enough time on here as it is. so, it's probably a bit pointless for me, but i do have a cute picture of myself on there! that's always a plus.

I'm on it. I don't really look at it too much.

i'm on it. i signed up a cople months ago at the request of a friend, but i was drunk at the time and it kind of confused me...then i forgot about it. but then when the BW boards went down, a bunch of us ended up signing on and now it's become an addiction. there's a boatload of dayton, 'nati and cowtown folks on there.
