My high school, SCPA, is putting on an art's event to raise money for their new building and day-to-day operations.

It is called Artz-a-Poppin.

(what a dorky name, i know)

All the same, the event is Saturday, May 10th, from 10a - 9p at SCPA (the 5-story building at Sycamore & 13th, you can't miss it).

There will be student and alumni (professional and amatuer alumns) performing and displaying artwork THAT WHOLE DAY!

Admission is $5, children are free (doesn't explain what children are... oh well).

And... the bonus feature...

I will have my show there.

Now... what kinda of event do I do? Well, I'm keeping THAT a secret, because there's much more to see than me. Band & Orchestra, Vocal concerts, Visual arts displays, Creative Writing, Shakespear in a tent, etc, etc.

So, please take the time, any part of it, from 10a - 9p THIS SATURDAY and support the artists-in-training and local artists.

oh and BTW, 13th & Sycamore is OUTSIDE of the boycott range from what I understand for all those people honoring it

i'm stuck in athens this weekend.

i went to all the arts stuff last year because i was a substitute teacher at SCPA for much of the school year. that is the most amazing school-- i remember begging my parents to let me audition, and they wouldn't because they didn't want me going into the city... when did you graduate?

'90.

It was the first class that could go from 4th to senior, so i was one of the first survivors.

It was a great school which had some hard times in the mid 90's but appears to be recovering.

i think you're a couple years younger than my cousins who went there... Tina & Cindy Listermann? i dunno.

i thought that things seemed like they were going pretty well last year when i was subbing there, so i'd say that it's on the upswing for SCPA...

Hey Due, long time no see, no?

I don't want to alarm you, but I probably know you from back when. I was class of '91. Skinny, long dark hair, end of the alphabet, in the art department, but walked around in a trench coat with a classical guitar most of the time.

And, I was actually planning on going tomorrow. Is there a time you'll be there? -- maybe I'll introduce myself.

I was actually there for the first Artzapoppin' thingy. I was on the crew to paint the school bus--do you remember that? Can't remember which year it was. We had the shell of a school bus that we parked at the entrance to the school so you had to step onto the bus and walk through it to get inside the building. We painted the creation scene from the Sistine Chapel on the roof. :) You do that sort of thing when you're a pretentious art student.
