Does anyone here own one of these gadgets? I was given the go-ahead to buy one for myself on the company charge and so I've been digging around and trying to figure out what the best one would be. Initially, it will replace my day-planner, but I'll probably want to run some type of Access lite on it so I can have my Systems database running on it and can go around the plant recording maintenence tasks while I'm doing them.
I'm liking this one (http://www.pocketpcpassion.com/toshiba/e740/e740-1.htm) right now.
So, any ideas suggestions, miscellanei?

I have the Palm m500, and while I would recommend the color m515, I have been very happy with it. It doesn't have wireless internet nor sound, but it does have an expansion slot (mmc/sd) which can handle up to 64mb (I think). You can also attach wireless/gps/keyboard/etc. Its also very small, thin, and light, and is rechargeable.
Couple've questions though. What type of OS are you looking for? Is this going to be work only, or do you want one you can play with for fun also?
I bought my Palm because of the vast amount of programs available for it (though I would assume the CE compatable PDA's have just as many programs). I have a word/excel program (actually reads and edits .doc and .xls files), a few chemistry programs (for my work), and of course, games. Only thing I wish it was capable of is .mp3 capability.
Hope that helps.
edited to add: btw, that Toshiba looks damn sweet. Wish I could afford it...

I think DSM is going to want CE, if he is going to be working closely and transferring data between his PDA and MS server at work.
I was going to say that you can get PDA's really cheap on half and ebay because a lot of people switch models every couple month on their company's dime. But since you aren't paying for yours. . .
Those e740's are supposedly the shiznit. 400 mHZ!
And just be aware there isn't really an Access for Pocket PC although there are many 3rd party programs that allow you to do database managment. From what I've seen/read, all the programs have at least one major weakness so check 'em out before you buy one. The guy I know who uses his Pocket PC for this stuff actually uses Pocket PC Visual Basic.

I still have my old Newton that I bought in '95... lavish features include 640K of memory and "electronic mail" functions. And it weighed like 12 oz. or something. At least it could beam stuff too... my cousin had one as well, and we always beamed each other silly doodles.
Oh yeah, and the whole "POOF!" thing whenever you scribbled out something.
I don't think the term 'PDA' was even around back then, was it? In any case, I'd be interested in getting a new type model. Actually I'll wait for a while until those Tablet PCs go down in price.
