X-Men (http://www.foxhome.com/xmen) less then 48 hours to go...

I just have a question. On the DVD(I bought the DVD for a fear of a VCR that might hunger for a VHS movie) X-Men 1.5 there is to be a coupon for a *FREE* movie ticket within it...

Where is it?

I can't wait to see this one too. I think I might even not stay out late just so I can see the early matinee tomorrow. When I was a kid I loved X men and, well, I still do!

Okay I found the *Free movie pass* It fell out of the X-Men DVD 1.5 folder behind some CDs. It's good for either Daredevil or X-Men2 until May 23rd, '03.
I'm going to wait until I feel a bit better to see the movie. That and only one theatre is playing the movie near me, so it's going to packed.

Can't wait for this headache to go away...

Cheese doodley review of X2:

*Ahem*

Well kids, it's better than the first movie. How much better will be determined by how much you enjoyed part one.

You see, I went into this movie with mixed feelings. I like the first movie, but it feels like an appetizer before the main course. I wanted this to BE a main course, and in many ways it is, but it still left me looking for a side dish the waiter forgot to bring out with the steak.

If anything, the part of the movie I wasn't as thrilled with is the first hour after the initial attack on the President (which in itself was pretty nifty). It left me thinking that the movie was going in the direction of the first, all appetizer. Thank God for the second half, because once you get to the dam (you'll understand if/when you see it) all hell breaks loose, in a good way.

I really liked the focus of this film, and with the added 45 minutes that the first movie didn't have (it is 2h 15m long), you get more character development. The main focus this time around seems to be on Nightcrawler, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Mystique and Storm, all of which have great scenes (and no annoying lines or embarassing accents). Everyone else plays a role, but mostly in support of the main players.

The main villian (played by Brian Cox) is VERY well done. Stryker is a pretty fleshed out character, and played with just the right amount of menace. Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming) is also terrific. They don't even dumb down his religious background from the comics either. It plays a key role in his makeup (both literally and figuratively). Mystique gets some serious screen time in this one too, and they use her to great effect. You even get to see Rebecca as herself without the blue makeup, and she's so stunning :) .

There are a lot of subtle things for the comic lover too (check out who's on the TV in the bar, and who they have files on when Mystique accesses Striker's computer.....like a certain Remy), so those fans won't be disappointed. I say if any characters got the shaft this time, it's Cyclops and Lady Deathstrike. As a matter of fact, I don't think Kelly Hu had one line of dialouge....?

Anyway, the fights are much better, and there's a whole lot of action in this one, so you shouldn't be disappointed if you're a fan.

*Slight spoiler warning....*

Oh, and there are some twists too, one involving Cerebro and one involving a character from one of the best X-Men storylines at the end.....

*Spoiler off*

Even with its slow start (and the fact that I feel the trailer gives away too much info), it's still a fun ride. Most of you shouldn't be disappointed.

3.75 out of 5 cheese doodles.

Nightcrawler was always one of my favorites too.

I have heard reports that when Nightcrawler teleports in the movie, he doesn't go "BAMF!" For those that have seen it, does he teleport silently, or does he simply make a non-BAMF noise? Either way, it would disappoint me greatly.

He does make a noise....although it doesn't sound terribly like BAMF. It's more like a whoosh in reverse. Easiest was I can describe it is.....

Inhale audibly and then close your lips really quickly. Now take that sound and make it a couple of octaves deeper. That's a bamf.

my friends and i got into a big discussion afterwards trying to figure out if she had any dialogue. all we could come up with was the "What are you doing in here?" to the 'janitor' with the trash. anybody else remember any others?

i liked it more than the first. the white house scene at the beginning was fucking great. i thought towards the end it had a few minor problems, but still really good on the whole.

and now there's been cool shadowcat teasers in both the movies.

am i the only one that notices that Rogue's southern accent just kinda comes and goes in both the movies now?

I forgot about that quote (re: Kelly Hu), so she does have A line... lol.

Anna Paquin definitely needs to keep the proper accent.

As far as mutant cameos, this movie actually comes with a bunch already.... Shadowcat, Colossus, Beast (if only on TV), Gambit (if only as a computer file), Siryn (girl screaming in bed), one big one at the end which I won't spoil, and others I may have missed. It was a nice treat for those who follow/had followed the comics.

Why couldn't the boy who can turn liquid into ice JUST freeze the water instead of Jean Grey having to sacrifice her life? This annoyed me to NO END...

***SPOILER OFF***

Probably a set-up for a third x-men movie, at least that's the ol' man's theory. In the comics, Jean evolves (notice that it was her voice over the end talking about evolution and the thing moving under the water?) and becomes the phoenix who eventually threatens the world...dunno though.

Better than the first, as I was entertained, but if they want to try to stay true to the comic ideas without warping them, then they should of had Colossus as one of the X-men, not a student (he was one of the original), and they should have has Dr. Hank McCoy as The Beast in the middle of all of it. Plus, they barely did anything w/ Sen. Kelly. Hopefully, X3 (with the way the movie went, I'm sure that's where it's headed) will actually settle into a good story along with good character development.

I gave you adequate warning by posting "***SPOILER***" before mentioning that part and putting in lots of spacing.

I'm sorry if you were not aware that we normally mark info from the movie that way.
My apologies...

Anyone who quotes a SPOILER should be sure to keep the word SPOILER in their quote...in order to keep from SPOILING the movie for others...

Annoying FanBoy Response On
Actually Colossus was only one of the original 'new' x-men after the revamp. The original x-men were just Cyclops, Jean Grey (Marvel Girl), Iceman, Beast, and Angel. and from the comics, i've always gotten the impression that Colossus was fairly young (with the Colossus-Shadowcat romance). but i could be wrong - it's been about 9 years since i last read most x-men stuff.
Annoying FanBoy Response Off

but regardless, i don't really think that "staying true to the comics" is an issue. there are things that can work great in comic form, that just can't work on the big screen. and i think it's been made pretty clear from the beginning that the way to look at the movies is as just another revamp of the x-men concept, just like the cartoon or the 'Ultimate X-Men' line.

I've seen it twice now and it's absolutely fantastic. I was always a huge X-Men fan (so there is a slight bias), so this movie and all the cameos/hintings (even OBSCURE shit like Snow Bird and Captin Fantastic's SON) made me giggle like a school girl. I see a third one coming, and it could either be absolutely stunning or a complete mess of characters.

I agree mostly with the character development lack on some in this movie, but it DID set up for the next one (complete absence of Sabertooth, Cyclops and his relation to Jean etc) for loose ends to be tyed and further exploration.

All I really want is Jubalie and Gambit. Which Jubalie is in this one.

Damn it's good... :D :D :D

check out my review on my website. (http://www.digital-savior.com)

********SPOILER ALERT********

The reason that bobby drake didn't freeze the entire lake is because he can't do that anyway. Understand, iceman is always a huuuuuuuuuuge wuss until later on in his life, then he becomes cocky but really can't do much of anything except swoop around on ice bridges and throw snowballs. Regardless, he just wasn't powerful enough to stop the water all together.

But Jean Grey as the phoenix does come back and almost destroy the earth... prompting the x-men to fight one of their own and scott summers to try to kill the only woman he's ever loved... oh how dreadfully interesting.

My other insanely huge fucking problem with this movie is wolverine kills lady deathstrike.... SHE DOESN'T DIE!!! If she dies then how are they gonna work omega red into this series? Because they have to bring omega red into it, he's the only character who was ever truly stronger than wolverine... oh well, who knows.

********SPOILER END********

All in all, great flick..

Okay, I stopped reading this somewhere on the first page where someone (CT?) mentions a character from a great storyline. I want to be surprised. I still haven't seen it, as going to see a movie isn't what my family thinks of as a good way to spend a chunk of your (read: their) vacation.

Anywho....please please god let it be a sign of the third movie following the Omega Red series please god

Okay, I've never read the comic books.
I did LOVE the cartoon series that was on when I was little (the "next generation" series from the past year or 2 is okay too, though not as rad as the old one.

In that original cartoon series, the Phoenix thing was the just the stupidest storyline ever. EVER. Maybe it was just done poorly, or maybe it didn't translate, but it sucked.

My sister came home from seeing the film opening night. All she'd say was that I wouldn't like the ending.

I saw the movie Sunday. As soon as I saw Jean Gray's eyes get all firey that first time, I started dreading the Phoenix Saga. When you see the stupid shape of the stupid bird at the end, I started swearing (softly, as there were kids around me).

As a whole though, I thought it was a stellar movie. Character development was really well done, the acting was pretty top notch, and the special effects stuff was really nice, especially with Nightcrawler. Actually, Nightcrawler was awesome in every respect.

Me toooo! I hope the *hint* at Gambit means he'll show up in the next movie . . . Cajun accents are way sexy.

I thought this was a very sturdy movie for an action blockbuster. Lots of stuff going on. In fact, sometimes I felt like I needed mutant powers just to keep track of all the subplots. Good fun for kids and adults alike.

BTW, when it comes to character development, this movie kicks the Matrix's ass all over the cineplex.
