i don't understand what this towns obsession with shitty music is..buckra...readymaid..the black and tan carpet band....come on people this city only holds itself back...over and over again the same bands are praised for their mediocrity..oh say the fairmount girls who haven't changed a bit in seven years except the lineup....which by the way the guitar player is way too cool to playing with a bunch of hasbeens...maybe it's a blessing in disguise that dearyme is closing it's doors then no one else will take the time to put out their shitty music...It also seems any band that is worth a shit has to leave town to find any success...i am not saying that any of the players in these bands are not talented musicians just imaginationless(if that is a word.) The barenaked ladies already exist why do we need a replay of that in our town?
I am not trying to start any shit..i just think right now there are some really great things going on in our fair city and all deserve recognition and support if we are going to take this thing to the next era.....this kind of thing seems to only happen every 11 years or so.....

maybe you could give us some examples of local bands with imagination?!?
i think lumping readymaid in with black and tan carpet band is totally incorrect, but of course you're entitled to your opinion. even if it's completely wrong. :P

I kind of agree...I lived in Cinti for 7 years and listened to a lot of shitty local bands (I think one even played a saw onstage...).
I'm diggin' on the Not lately...they are pretty cool, but I don't live there anymore and I don't get to see them play out.

Spindle is my favourite local band around. Rockets to Mars is second on my list.

i always enjoy seeing poste haste. and when i saw color test recetly i thought they were pretty fun as well.
but, for the most part, i'm not much of a fan of our local music as a whole.

Now you come up with an album title, right after we sent it off to the printers.

Wouldn't it be much simpler to just avoid seeing the bands you hate rather than flame this board?
I don't like a lot of bands in this town, that's why I don't go to their shows.
Its pretty easy, really.

Exactly what is your musical background that gives you the ability to so wonderfully critique these particular bands?

Yeah!!! What she said!!!!
I happen to like Buckra, and I think that Clabbergirl, Anonymous Bosch, and Homonculous kick ass. You failed to mention a large portion of the bands in Cincy. What about Moth? Hmmmm? They kick ass. And if you want to just go by the area itself, just a few miles north is Shrug and GBV. And south a little is Superdrag. There are so many very good bands in the area, its hard to imagine someone overlooking them to point out all the bad ones.
OMG! How could I forget the Ass Pony's!!! And Afghan Whigs!!!
I think I've said enough.

I think it's ok to express negative opinion on these boards...granted it could have been stated in bit gentler, but there is still free speech in America (for now, John Ashcroft ;))
I have some huge beefs with the local music scene, but I was spoiled by my musical "coming of age" that occurred in the mid nineties in the Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus scene....I give these boards a lot of props for supporting local music, but if somone thinks a certain band is good or bad...let them speak their minds.

I leave my opinion out of about 80% of the threads I read, usually because I don't feel the need to express negative towards what people dig. I can't stand rap or country, but my friends dig it and I don't bitch when they play it. If that's what they're into, it's cool with me that they like something.
HOWEVER, I've been to many so-called large cities and Cincy is no different than most. Every town will have good and bad bands (in your opinion). But if you had an ounce of musical knowledge, you'd see the talent with Readymaid if you actually went and heard them. Like them or not, they're a good band of talented musicians. I could list a ton of talented bands in this area, but I simply don't have the time in my day to do so.
But if you think so many suck, go to a Youngfellow show, walk up to any of them, tell them they're a shitty non-talented band in an un-creative town.............. and see what happens!

I totally agree Candy - but I get really tired of people crapping on Cincy's music scene when so many people have done so much to try to change it. And the post was general - didnt mention why he didnt like those bands or anything else for that matter...just said "bad" and left.
I personally dont like Spindle but I can see why folks like them and can appreciate them. I do think they are the most marketable band in the city (which isnt all a bad thing either).
I come from a place with NO indie music scene or one so little it couldnt be found. I feel lucky to live in Cincy and have what we do...
And if anyone really wants to see Cincy get it's groove on - go to MPMF this year (or better yet volunteer)!
