‘LOCAL LISTENING LOUNGE’ BREATHES NEW LIFE AND NEW MUSIC
INTO FRIDAY HAPPY HOUR

It’s 5:30 on Friday again, and the gang wants to head on out to Happy Hour to get the weekend started. But you’re tired of the same old food, the same old drinks, the same old music and the same old atmosphere. What’s the solution? Go to Plush, above Carol’s on Main, for the new “Local Listening Lounge” Happy Hour.

What is the Local Listening Lounge Happy Hour? Well, it’s not your mother’s Happy Hour that’s for sure. For one thing, it’s all about the music—new music, that is, from your favorite (and soon-to-be favorite) local bands and musicians. You’ll get to listen to one or two local artists’ CDs in their entirety and be able to give your thoughts on the record on comment cards. You’ll be able to register to win a free copy or purchase the CD if it strikes your fancy, and best of all you’ll get to meet the artists who make the music happen. All this, plus free snacks, $2 appetizers from Carol’s on Main’s eclectic menu, drink specials from a well-stocked bar and Plush’s overall unique atmosphere, means that the Local Listening Lounge will soon become the only Friday Happy Hour you need attend.

The first Listening Lounge will feature local 3-piece Tonefarmer (www.tonefarmer.com), and future Lounges will feature the work of such diverse local acts as the Giant Judys, Autumn Blackouts, Culture Queer and Jake Speed.

It will definitely be a happy hour when you get to hear Tonefarmer’s latest EP, Where You Go, (produced and mixed by Pete Lewis for 365Artists, assistant engineer, Ric Morris, recorded at The Dairy, London) featuring the single “You Don’t Turn Around,” and meet the band. The Cincinnati Enquirer said of Tonefarmer’s music: “Self-described as a modern pop band with British rock influences, Tonefarmer has been compared to groups like The Verve, REM or Coldplay. Their work seems to float between upbeat, easy pop and more intense, at times haunting, songs.”

Plush was just voted “Best Hot Spot” by CityBeat: “Plush above Carol’s on Main continues to be one of the more eclectic rooms in Cincinnati. Mikey Roesch and Puck Dunaway recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of their popular “Girls & Boys” musical happenings there, hosting live bands and cool dance music. Several theater groups continue to book performances there. And on back-to-back nights in February the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce hosted a young professionals meet-and-greet and Cincinnati Tomorrow unveiled its Creative City Plan accompanied by remarks from Mayor Charlie Luken and performances by local bands.”

The first Local Listening Lounge Happy Hour will happen on Friday, May 2, 2003 from 5:30-8:30, at Plush Lounge, above Carol’s on Main (825 Main St.). Admission is free, appetizers are $2, and there will be drink specials from 5:30-8:30.

See you there!
