Yep the giveaway schedule has been announced and I will be at 2 bobblehead games. Austin Kearns and the joe and marty dates.

and I like the no sale at the walk up windows for opening day this year. I have an elaborate plan with my brother for phone and interenet access to buy tix for opening day. I want the best I can get for that first game. I've already scheduled off work for march 31st.

Does anyone else plan to attend?

What's the no sale for opening day at the walk up windows thing? Does that mean they're not selling tickets for opening day at the walk up windows? Forgive my ignorance and penchant for stating the obvious if so.

Tix go on sale February 22nd. The only opening day I've ever been to was when I was 11 and I was in the Cincinnati Boys Choir. We sang the National Anthem (we also did it for opening day of the Bengals the same year). Otherwise, I've never been. I'm gonna try like hell to get tix this year, though. If I can get 'em online, I will.

yep. No sales at the walk up window for opening day. they will ONLY be available over the phone and online. I figure my brother and I will each end up with 2 tix if things go right. so I should have set to sell online. they are limiting it to 4 seats to a credit card and household.

they've asked Bush to throw out the first pitch.

yay!!!!! i have been to opening day for the past 9 (?) years. best day of the year ya know? only 4 is gonna hurt. from my experience they will be sold out by the time you try and buy another set with an additional credit card. less seats this year with the new stadium.

not a huge bobble head fan, but i will be getting tickets to see the all star games, er i mean the yankees series.

8-)

already have reds/indians tickets in cleveland this summer.

No. I spent an hour on computer and phone and got zip. Their online system sucks my balls. Anyone who was trying online can sympathize, I'm sure. I was all cued up right at 10AM and was placed in a virtual waiting room. I thought, "Alright, that was easy. I'll be one of the first in!" By the time the clock had expired and it was my turn, I got a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" error. After hundreds of tries thereafter, I kept getting the same thing. I'm guessing their server couldn't handle the crushing weight of the heavy traffic.

All the while, I was trying the phone as well. I estimate that in the hour I tried to get through, I dialed roughly 800 times. Never once even got a hint that I was going to get through. After sixty minutes of online and phone tries, I gave up. Congrats to those of you more tenacious (and lucky) than I.

If anybody has any extras, I'd love to buy it off ya. :D

Went down to Great American Ballpark Friday for the first game ever there against Cleveland. Despite getting spanked 6 - 1, it was pretty cool. Nice fucking park. Can't wait to see more games there. Ok I have an issue with a whole bunch of fans at the game today. I understand not cheering for the other team but Booing? just seems silly and then to top it off after a SPECTACULAR homerun was hit (by Lofton I think) the crowd chanted "throw it back, throw it back". And it was...along with another that had been hit. I was ASHAMED to be around these people. Had it not been for my brother I would have walked out. We deserved to lose because the majority of the park seemed to be sore losers. The Pirates played well, why can't we just appreciate good ball playing. If anyone needed to be booed, they were in the red and white.

these fans were definitely a low point of the game. booing pokey AND sanders? geesh. one f'n woman in front of me tried to get a wave started when the reds had the bases loaded with jr, kearns and dunn up. i wanted to smack her. then she tried again when the bucs had the sacks full, crist. the same fans of course paid complete attention and were full of pride during lee greenwood for god sake.

other lows for the visit to the stadium:

advertising, ugh. especially the banner type animated crap that ran across the entire feild between the lower and upper sections just in my eye's view. so distracting.

hokie between innings games of course sponsored by more advertising. the voice on that woman who does the kroger fan cam makes me want to strangle the closest drunk.

flow of getting around the stadium. upon leaving we had to go through what appeared to be a room filled with trash to find the concourse.

reds lack of starting pitching, ugh.

high points for the day:

the nypd cop singing the national anthem

view onto the river with the boats and bridges, cool.

entry way to the stadium with the statue of klu and the artist there posing for pics with it and fans

all seats seemed to be good seats and have a decent view

baseball

Basically, fair-weather baseball fans, or people who want to go for the experience and not the game. Let's face it, about the ONLY reason to go to Riverfront was to watch the game.

Willy Mo is one of those Rule V players. He was signed by the Yankees at 16, spent five years in the minors, then was traded to the Reds for Drew Henson among others. If Willy Mo is sent down, the Yanks or any other team could pick him up for nothing, hence why he is on the roster for all year.

To be fair, Willy Mo has been touted as a future star in this league. He has all five tools needed to be a success. And he's only 21. As if the Reds didn't have enough outfielders...my guess is he will spend a year or two in Triple A before he becomes the next Reds CF.

Ummm...Kearns has a sore shoulder (and I blame that for yesterday's loss  ), Junior's still not playing multi-million dollar baseball (shocking!), Larkin ain't playing, Guillen is still doing good, Dunn's rockin' (although he was off last night) and somehow the Reds have the ML homerun leader, the NL RBI leader, a coupla impressive streaks (hits in consecutive games, homeruns in consecutive games), and we're only 2 1/2 games outta first.

Wow...that was one sentence.

It's even worse than that. He actually has a contract clause that states he has to be in the majors in 2003 so they need his consent to send him down. Supposedly he is willing to waive the clause, but then there are still the Rule V issues. Basically the Reds are stuck having him on the bench when he needs to be playing every day. They can't afford to insert him into the lineup at the cost of Dunn, Kearn, Griffey, and Guillen.

That was a nice win today for the Reds. Of course the Cubs are still in first, yay!

if Pena is such a great stock to have hidden back why dont they trade him for valueable pitching? As tight as the nl central is, every team in this division will beat up on each other holding them all in check at near even records. The thing thats holding the reds back is a reliable starting pitcher. So why not trade Pena?

I think Guillen will be the one dealt, honestly. He's never going to be more than an fourth outfielder with the Reds. There's more potential with Pena than there is Guillen, and he's way younger. Finally, in five years, an outfield of Dunn, Pena, and Kearns looks a lot better then an outfield of Dunn, an old, feeble Griffey, and Kearns. But maybe I'm getting ahead of myself.

Also, keep in mind EVERYONE will be looking for starting pitching come July. The other half of the problem is there's not much talent that will be available to get, thus the asking price will be outrageous. I really can't think of anyone who would help a playoff team that would be dealt. Let's see where K.C. and Montreal are by July, I guess.

I had no idea Pena's contract was that bad, RichmondVA. He may be worth all the trouble by 2005, hopefully.

what a heartbreaker tonight. bases loaded no outs in the first inning and all we get is a walked in run. Damn. And what was with never bringing adam dunn in to pinch hit late in the game. Pena did play, but he grounded out, but he did hustle, he is one speedy man. And who's idea was it to have reitsma stay in the game at inning 10 tonight? Williamson was ready to go and reitsma already pitched a clean inning. I knew Chipper jones was going yard the second the ball left his hand. But it was the best game ive been to in a while.

RichmondVA
02 Jun 2003, 01:57 PM
Naw, Clemens'll get it.

Wood will strike out 8-9 batters in the first 5 innings, then he'll walk someone, get in a jam, and give up a few runs. And then he'll lose because the the already-lousy Cubs offense always manages to play even worse when he is on the mound. That's pretty much the story with Wood over the last 2 1/2 years.

I think Dusty Baker must be some kind of genius when it comes to non-baseball managing of player's morale and ego because he's the worst baseball-decision manager I've ever seen. He leaves his starters in too long, he's too loyal to veterans, and his teams have terrible fundamentals (fielding, baserunning). Yesterday the Cubs are down 5-0 in the sixth, no outs and he has Goodwin steal 3rd. GAH! NEVER MAKE THE FIRST OUT AT THIRD. Especially down 5-0. You've got to play for the big inning.

Two games ago, he used big, fat Lenny Harris to lay down a bunt pinch hitting for the pitcher. Any pitcher can lay down a bunt as well as Lenny Harris. Now you've burned a pitcher and a pinch hitter FOR NO REASON AT ALL!

Oh, and FABO Matt Mantei.

I have tickets to a game on June 17th and passes to the Riverfront Club. Has anyone been there? Is it worth going to the club before the game to eat? Can you go there and just eat snacks and then go to your seat?

I don't know. I do know, however, how amazing the diamond lounge is. I did have passes to the riverfront club as well, but, well, we didn't use them. Now EVERY time I go to the game (though I do have fun and all) I long for the free-brought to my seat-beer/cocktails/food. I stress again...if any of you are ever offered these seats...take them..run...don't look back...and have the best goddamn time of your life at the game.

I am currently having an arguement with my signficant other....although Johnny Bench has never publically acknowleged his sexual orientation isnt it sort of accepted that he is a homosexual?

Or have I been smoking something?

thanks gang.

Hmmm. I've never heard that. But I don't exactly have my ear to the ground when it comes to rumors about Johnny Bench's sexuality. I'm pretty sure he was married at least once or twice though... Of course, that means nothing.

Last night, 2 of my favorite things came together while I was in attendance: the Reds won, and the Yankees lost. :D

Okay, so y'know that "song of the game" or whatever? The one where the crowd votes by cheering louder for the song they like? Last night, it was "New York, New York" by Sinatra, some NY song by KISS, and "New York, New York" by bRyan Adams. And the winner? "WKRP in Cincinnati". Word.

Man, that was confusing. I thought you meant that he liked Classic both ways. They should put this sentence in Grammar textbooks as an example of the importance of comma usage:

"I think he's bi Classic." vs. "I think he's bi, Classic."

I don't personally like to see the fights. When the suspensions are handed down the club will be fucked and and any progress we may have made by then in the standings could be for not. I haven't seen a good view of this particular rumble yet. a little vid on mlb.com but I still can't see all that happens. Sounds like a couple of teams are giving the reds a hard time because they actually have a shot this year...sort of threatened by that.

Ya wanna know why teams are getting mad at the Reds? It's 'cause the powers that be stuck that fine-ass honey Marge Schott so far up in the stands that the opposing players can't get an eyefull. It's all frustration, baby.

Hehe... good ol' Marge.

A friend of mine got tickets from his employer, and we were sitting directly behind Marge, with one row between us. So there's marge puffin' away on a big ol' stogie, and I decided screw it, I'm gonna smoke too. (This was after they banned smoking at Riverfront in the stands). So an usher comes down and says, "sir, you're going to have to extinguish that".

"But she's doing it," I said, and pointed to Marge.

They still made me put it out.

it's pretty sad when a team goes to a 4 man rotation because they cannot afford a 5th pitcher. even more sad when maybe 2 of the 4 you have would be starting on my any other team.

only thing the sucky starting rotation provides is opportunities for the amazing comebacks the reds have been able to pull off this year.

Went to the game on Sunday. Seats were about ten rows back between first and right. Very nice, but my bald head is nice and crispy.

Anyhow, very disheartening to watch a game they had in the bag crumble away to yet another loss. Why did Boone pull Paul Wilson at the end of the 7th? Four hits, two runs, ninety pitches and you pull him? WTF? Was he hoping to save him because of this maddening four man rotation? Egads!

Have to say the highlight of the game came somewhat early. As a vendor passed by me, then made his way back up the aisle, I thought he looked familiar. When I saw his name tag, I knew I wasn't wrong. WOXY's own Phil sold me water at the Reds game!
