Ok, so we have a new presidency. Let's all play armchair C-in-C!

1st, I don't believe he'll be able to withdraw troops at the rate he originally intended. I do believe he'll have to have some further concerted effort to resolve this issue. One thing we could really use in our nation is to finally leverage our actual might instead of a partial might to get it over with.
What do I mean?
I mean, we're involved in a conflict of a very large scale but expect our military to take care of it all by themselves as if they are a self-contained entity. WTF? Whatever happened to really supporting our troops beyond simply buying yellow ribbons from Wal-Mart that were made in Hondorous? Why aren't we re-employing our unemployed by leveraging them to make equipment for our troops? Why aren't we rationing our food, supplies, & other goods, to make sure they're just as equipped?
Are we just waiting for the war to get bigger?
It's the war we're trying to win "on the cheap" but I don't mean monetarily. I mean by effort. We treat the war as a problem with another "division" of our country instead of involving the whole thing.
I'd look for opportunities for society to really bring themselves around & truly put in the effort to give the effort the support it needs to succeed.

...or not. We'll have a charismatic Democrat presiding over a majority-Democrat Congress. Since I support a sane, responsible, orderly draw-down of our military presence in Iraq, I'll look forward to seeing the Dems start walkin' it as they've been talkin' it on this issue...albeit with a significant amount of cautious optimism That would be because I think it's equally likely that they will continue dickering around and doing fuck-all for as long as they can continue throwing the blame at Bush for as long as it sticks.
One thing we could really use in our nation is to finally leverage our actual might instead of a partial might to get it over with.
Actually, the US has been leveraging the bejeezus out of our military might. The fact that we have National Guard units with multiple rotations in Iraq would seem to suggest this.

It's been my understanding that the Defense Department has kicked in a few bucks here and there to help out. Because this comes from our taxes, I suppose that kinda means we support them.
Why aren't we re-employing our unemployed by leveraging them to make equipment for our troops?
Maybe because unless there's some massive logistical shortfall I've not yet heard about, it'd make little sense.
Why aren't we rationing our food, supplies, & other goods, to make sure they're just as equipped?
Because this would also be utterly pointless to the point of being just plain crazy. Our troops are well-supported in the "food" department; military leaders have been acutely aware of the fact that severe malnourishment tends to have a profoundly deleterious effect on a soldiers' effectiveness in battle since at least the Roman Empire. Rest assured, Private Shmuckatelli will not miss a meal because we're hoarding food.
