View Full Version : Political rhetoric you hate most.

Thankfully this season of hate is almost over. So, in memorial, the wife and I were talking about some of the lines pundits and politicians were using that we hope we never hear again.
The one that is most disgusting to us is," drink the kool-aid". I've heard several conservative pundits use this to describe Obama's supporters or people who don't question his policy ideas enough. How in the fuck can someone compare Obama's message to such a horrible event as Jonestown? Are they trying to insinuate that Obama is a lunatic cult leader and the people who support him are brainwashed mindless lambs being lead to the slaughter? Makes me fucking sick everytime I hear it. Horrible. I know it has been used for a while by O'Reily and it seems to spreading to others. I wish somebody would call the next person to use it out and tell them how stupid of an analogy it is.
So, what are some political season hyperbolic lines that get under your skin?

I wouldn't care if I never heard, "Throw someone under the bus," again. Ever.

That phrase has really become trite this year. I think it started with that radio guy who complained that McCain had thrown him under the bus (after McCain condemned him for shouting Obama'smiddle name at a rally).
Then it was Obama throwing his grandmother under the bus.
It's an evocative phrase, but yeah, it needs a rest.

Lower taxes.
Lower taxes for the wealthy.
Thanks, but no thanks.
...and I approved this message because.... (I hate the "because" stuff)
You're not voting for Obama? Then you must be a racist.
You're a conservative? Then you must be ignorant/naive/a high school dropout.
Out of touch.
4 more years of Bush..
Oh, and my favorite hypocrisy of them all: "Bush's failed economic policies".

Ha, that is funny! These are all great but this post is the best.
Yeah, I'm sick of the word maverick too.
I was thinking that with Palin's speaking like she is talking to a Sunday school class of 1st graders and all the Tito the Construction worker and Joe the plumber characters they are rolling out, that the republicans are really reaching out to a younger crowd. The elementary approach is really getting on my nerves. Even the choir they are preaching to have to be offended that they are being talked down to like they are in grade school. Do republicans think that their voting base really needs some characters akin to Bob the Builder to relate too so they know who to vote for? Just for the record, I thought of the Bob the Builder joke before John Stewart.

So the last time I was in cincinnati the political commercials were so intense it was rediculous. Not just for the prez but everyone else too.
Makes me glad to live in DC and apparently be part of a specialized demographic for the cable advertising. We get a few presidential ads per show and that's about it. At least those ads have a nice production value and no cheezy sound effects :D
And Tivo saved my soul, BTW.

when it comes down to some unstable person having their unwanted child and then fucking them up, like they're fucked up, or having a voluntary abortion, i'm squarely, unapologetically pro-abortion. no question about it.
