of all the stories in the campaign, this has really gotta be the silliest.
by all accounts, chelsea seems like she turned out to be a fine woman with a good head on her shoulders. which is amazing considering the environment she grew up in.
but the fact is, she's not a 13 year old anymore and she is actively participating in her mom's campaign by making appearances and now, calling Super Delegates to get them to stick with hillary.
all of this makes her 'in play' for comment & criticism. yeah so the choice of words, "pimped-out", wasn't the best. but, with shows like "pimp my ride", that term has taken on a much more mainstream meaning.
so needless to say, hillary's reaction is nothing but crocodile tears designed a) to get sympathy, and (most important), b) get lighter treatment from an intimidated news media.

actually, I kinda thought it was in bad taste (the comment)
if somebody said you 'pimpin out' your daughter you'd be pissed too. Obama also slammed the comment.
probably didn't bother chelsea.
honestly, something like this is to be expected. it was said to get ratings and attention and it sucks all the way around.

I thought it was in bad taste too. Doesn't matter if Chelsea is an adult or not--she isn't running for president and should be left alone. Family members should be off limits.

While i won't defend Shuster's choice of words, Chelsea has not only been campaigning actively, but she has been calling/corraling superdelegates. That means she is absolutely fair game. You can't act as a surrogate and then expect not to be treated like one.
That said, I still think the term 'pimped out' was inappropriate. Although not completely knowing the clintons.

Family members should be off limits.I don't agree with Shuster's comment about Chelsea, it was malicious at best; however, in reading the transcript of the e-mails between Shuster and Clinton's guy, he did make a valid point: that if she is going to all of a sudden hit the campaign trail, make highly publicized appearances across the country and stump for her mother's Presidential run after she and her parents so vehemently "proected" her up to this point, then she also needs to make herself available to the press. I don't condone his comment in any way, but I can understand the point he was trying to make with that comment. I thought that it was a bit ironic myself, several weeks ago, when Chelsea started showing up more frequently to stump. She's a big girl now, and a very well educated adult child of two very powerful and popular politicians who, I'm certain, is capable of making her own choices. I would hope that Bill and Hillary have also tought her the fine art of speaking with and defending herself in the media.

instead of mock outrage, it would've been much better handled with humour:
when asked to comment, clinton spokesmodel mo elliethee noted, "Pimpin' ain't easy!"

sorry, Sushi, I don't agree. Chelsea is out there campaigning for her mom, so she's fair game. Not that I mean to agree with the comment, but if you are out there in the campaign, expect to get some shots taken. No tany different than people commenting about Obama's wife. Or Bill Clinton, for that matter.

Why hasn't the msm gone after Mitt's boys? They were all over the campaign trail with him and were aggressively out there drumming up business. No word about them being "pimped out". It's a double standard.

I agree. The comment was in bad taste at best but she is fair game, just like Mary Cheney is fair game. This is politics afterall.

Perhaps it just makes sense that she and her campaign supporters would be the focus of such a comment based on that alone.

Darth Cheney's hypocrisy notwithstanding, I'm not sure I'd agree that Mary Cheney is fair game. I know she worked on her dad's campaign but as I recall, she kept a fairly low profile. Criticising her campaign work doesn't seem out of line, but going after her personal life does.
That said, if Chelsea is putting herself in the spotlight and making appearances and especially if she's using her name and her status as former first daughter to draw attention then she invites the scrutiny of the press and the public. If she's quietly sitting in a back room stuffing envelopes that's one thing, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.
That said, to "Pimp one's ride" (to trick-out, customize especially in a gaudy fashion) comes off very differently from to "Pimp one's daughter" (to exploit in the crudest possible manner) and the comment was grossly inappropriate.

Agreed. In addition to which, John McCain has referred to his daughter as his "secret weapon" because she's young and pretty. Where's the accusation that he's pimping out his daughter?

Honestly, I remember the awkward and dorky 13 year old from when her dad got elected.
Chelsea is an odd figure when you get down to it. How many geeky teenaged boys fantasized a bit about dating her? How many geeky teenaged girls wanted to BE her?
She went to school in this town (DC), remember. WTF was that like, you think?

Chelsea Clinton is going to be at my university tomorrow. We're also hosting the Clinton-Obama debate in a couple weeks. I'd love to get tickets to that.

Chelsea Clinton in town tonight
From Sean Parker of SW Ohio for Hillary Clinton :
Chelsea Clinton will be in town tonight meeting with area young professionals.
Those interested in attending should meet at Sully's (700 Race St.) at 7:30 pm tonight.
Chelsea will be there, following a busy day of campaigning across the state, with events in Columbus, Delaware, and Dayton. Chelsea campaigns in Cleveland and Akron on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Chelsea's mom, Hillary, will be in Ohio tomorrow and Friday - but up north.
She's got rallies in Youngstown Thursday and Lyndhurst Friday.
