Okay, so this thread will have Black History quizzes in them. I plan on having one a week, but we'll see if I can do so. The questions will be given in multiple-choice & the answers will be given in invisiTEXT© below it. Please, if you do a quote do not include the answers in the quote.

Yes, it's the same test I posted in Facebook.

Also, grade yourselves accordingly & let us know.

Now, I'm not perfect, there will probably be typos & such, so if you have a dispute or don't believe a certain thing is true, let me know & I can provide what sources I used so we can be sure it's accurate. I'll have the quiz up after this introductory post.

[disclaimer]
Oh, btw, if you're going to say anything like "Hey, why didn't you do one for <insert adjective> people?" or that you don't believe there should be such a thing as "Black History Month", that's not quite what this is about. This quiz is posted here because it was put together now. It was inspired by this month's arbitrary assignment & I agree that all important people in US History should be recognized every day, however, this is happening here, now & not last month or next one (probably). So let's see how it goes.

You ought to number the questions and letter the answers, makes discussion easier.

That said, I missed #3 and #5, not bad for having not studied ;)

I've always been interested in the history of backs. I think backs are one of the greatest inventions of all time. Just think about it. Where would we be without backs? We wouldn't even be able to walk upright.

Here's the thing that's always puzzled me about backs:

If you're talking behind someone's back, aren't you really talking in front of them?

It's titled "Back" b/c I know if I made a thread about "blacks" there would be too many people running from it.

So it's titled Back but it's clearly about blacks. Tricked ya, eh? When are they ever,... if ever... going to include a feature where you can correct the thread's title?

Why would you need to correct something misspelled on purpose?

I find the fact that you put a disclaimer here absolutely hilarious. You were the same person who pretty much ruined a Veteran's Day thread that had a disclaimer in the first post.

It's funny how you want it both ways...

But I tried to explain the difference.
Or one could say that you tried to explain your oversimplified view.

Duemellon
06 Feb 2008, 07:58 AM
It's only hypocrictrical from your oversimplified view.

He made a thread, & tried to explain it wasn't political in intent, however,...
Just like you can't separate race from a thread about U.S. Black History,... That day is political because it's about people who implement the will of the politicians.

So, he posted it in Randomville... even though it's political, he said it wasn't political,... even though it's about politics, and then got upset when it was pointed out.

Different situation. I'm pretty sure, however, you're going to say you don't buy any of that, don't agree, or just will flat out wipe that out of your view & still just claim it's hypocritical. But I tried to explain the difference.

Another bit of irony...
When I brought that up in his thread, it was because he tried to say something that was intrinsicly political wasn't. You're bring that up in this thread, not because you disagree with the subject, but for a personal attack based on a grudge.

Get over it.

i never understood why the polish got a rap of somehow being unintelligent. makes no sense at all... chopin, warhol, walesa, john-paul II, copernicus and madame curie, among others, were all geniuses. why the hate??

and why the hate against the irish, while we're at it???? joyce, edmund burke, arthur guinness, flannery o'conner, bono, flann o'brien, kenneth branaugh, shane mcgowan, seamus heany, c.s. lewis, bram stoker, wilde, yeats, and many others were irish.

Yes, the poles are pretty smart, for sure. I think this misconception about their mental inability is based on the Polish cavalry, on horseback, riding out against the German armored mobile units in WWI.

Not sure of the reason for it, but many Poles had a good sense of humor about it--I never met anyone who liked a good Polack joke more than my Polish grandmother.

True
The closest any black person came to being the final nominee was Jesse Jackson '84 & '88 with the most success coming during the '88 campaign.

Malcolm Little
Malcolm Little became Malcolm X when he joined the Nation of Islam & after his Hajj trip to Mecca & he converted to the truer Islam, he changed his name to Malik Shabazz. The surname El-Hajj, I do believe, is due to the fact he made the religious pilgrimage.

There are a lot of myths & misunderstandings about black/white racism in this country. Most of it based on not knowing where/when/how it came about in its current form.

Interesting historic items highlight just how quickly it came about as well shedding light on how intertwined the current success of this country was based on the contributions (willing, intentional, as well as unwilling & unintentional) of blacks.

I thought the 1st quiz would be the harder one, but I guess not. I'm wondering if people are skipping to the answers when they aren't sure?

Oh well, anyone else take the quiz? What you got? Are the explanations of the 1st quiz interesting &/r helpful?

I'm hoping Due passes some sort of "affirmative action" thread legislation to boost my scores since i'm the product of a white educational system and was never given a chance to know many of these things. ;)
