I'd really like to see The Vines, but I hate going to sold-out shows at Bogart's, the idiot level always rises with the popularity of a band, short people like me can't see shit in that place, and the neighbourhood has gone to hell as well. I think I'll pass on that show. as much as I'd like to see The Music too.

I saw them on Conan O'Brien the day before the album came out and thought they were great, then I saw them on Letterman a few weeks later and they really, really sucked, It didn't even sound like them, the singer wasn't even trying, he was just screaming incoherently, then does a big-Kurt Cobain-smash-your-guitar-into-the-drumset-and-fall-down-on-the-floor-act. YAWN.

What is the fascination with Australian rock bands and Nirvana? (Silverchair, The Vines, Noise Addict) The Vines and their 3rd rate "garage" sounds (a movement in rock music that can be described as bowel-like and painful) can go back to Australia and play Thursdays at Wallabee's in Perth for all I care.

I have a good friend who works at the R&R Hall of Fame who had the displeasure of giving the Vines a tour of the place before their performance there.

She said they sucked very badly, and that halfway through the tour she was asked to find a bucket for them to puke in. Classy.

I thought The Vines CD was pretty good for a first release. A bit erratic perhaps, but all in all not a bad job. Then I saw them live in June. Truly horrible. Hands down the worst show I've seen in a long while. Imagine 35 minutes like the Letterman performance. i.e., they never put together a complete song, Craig was singing in falsetto or grunting or just rambling the whole time. The drummer couldn't keep a beat going (I later found out that they used session drummers on the CD) and the bass player just kind of stood around trying to play the song properly. To top it all off, after 35 minutes of unadulterated sucking, Craig's parting shot to the sellout crowd was "Thanks for being a horrible fvckin' audience."

Do yourself a favor and skip this show.

I really like the album and was hoping for it to sound more like Get Free than it does, though now my favourite songs are Country Yard and 1969.

Anyway, I was posting to say that I agree with most when I say that they (sadly) suck big poo in concert... BUT, I saw The Music last night (they're doing a few headline shows on the west coast before they go on tour with The Vines) and holy booty shake, they kicked arse! That drummer is a machine. And I now have a new favourite rock vocalist... who can dance his bum off. Which is basically what you will be doing the whole time they're on stage. Awesome.

And I hear the Vines have picked up their live show a bit after they went back to Australia for the first time since they've blown up, and got totally panned by critics AND fans (I was just Down Under during their tour and it wasn't pretty).

And hey if you miss the Vines show... The Music will be touring with Coldplay in Feb & Mar '03 to support the release of the LP which is released here on Feb 11. :D

gotta disagree on the music. i saw them with the vines and (i know you guys seem to hate em, but i thought they were decent, not spectacular but not terrible) and i thought they were really good.

cd was kinda dull though.

I thought they were 'taking a break' or something like that. I heard people couldnt stnad the singer always just screaming the lyrics instead of acutally singing, which they can do on occasion.
