Damn, why do they have to play the Park West in Chicago. I hate that venue.

What he said.

I wish they were coming closer to me. I just can't swing a trip up to Chicago this fall. :(

I was already considering a trip to San Fran to see a friend in November; this cinches it. I haven't seen the Waterboys since Fisherman's Blues. (Of course, I find most of the stuff he's released since Room to Roam underwhelming, but I'd still pay to see him on stage again.)

Thanks for the heads-up, Mike.

I've never seen The Waterboys live but I do have Fisherman's Blues on cassette. :p I haven't heard it in years but damn what a great album. I think I'm going to buy it on iTunes. Thanks, Mike for reminding me of some great old music from my younger days. :D

If you can find it (or afford it), get the remastered double-disc version. It's got some great extras, plus the full length recordings of a couple tracks (I guess the original cd had the aforementioned songs shortened for whatever reason).

Even better is the remastered 2-cd set of This is the Sea...most of the bonus material is fantastic, plus the liner notes are great.

All those old Waterboys albums have been reissued with a bunch of unreleased tracks; I can take or leave most of the unreleased stuff, but there are a few good ones.

Btw, anybody ever hear him on BBC2 in 2005? He did a song called "The Wedding" (never released anywhere, to the best of my knowledge) with just guitar and fiddle, and damn is that an intense track.

No, they are different. I've never had or heard Too Close to Heaven, but from my cursory glance at allmusic.com, it appears that none of the tracks are the same.

Ah. Well, being that the period between This Is The Sea and Fisherman's Blues seems to have been his most prolific, Too Close To Heaven was all (heretofore unreleased) stuff from the FB sessions.
