Police: He stomped on ex-girlfriend's belly

A 15-year-old boy who allegedly wanted his estranged girlfriend to get an abortion took matters into his own hands when he stomped and kicked her swollen belly, killing her unborn child by fracturing its skull, officials say.

Authorities issued arrest warrants on charges of aggravated murder and felonious assault for Alfonso "Lil Al" Price, who police have been searching for since Wednesday night.

Precisely.

What would you have them do in this situation, Due?

I don't know when the precedent was set, but in this case the answer to your question is in the article (I put it in bold).

The attack on 4-foot, 11-inch Kerria Anderson - who was eight months pregnant - angered officials.

"It's shocking someone so young could be so violent," Lt. Tom Lanter of the Cincinnati Police Department said. "It's an absolute tragedy that someone could be so angry at such a young age.

"Our guys will get this little guy," Lanter pledged.

Said Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters: "This is a despicable act, and it's almost unspeakable for a 15-year-old to commit such a crime."

Deters said he will push to have the youth tried as an adult.

"The fact is juvenile court is not set up to handle an offender like this - someone who stomps a baby out of an 18-year-old girl; I consider that offender unsavable," he said.

Anderson's grandmother, Betty Payne, also wants to see Alfonso tried as an adult because he could face life in prison if convicted.

Anderson planned to name her daughter Precious Anderson. Her due date was Aug. 20, Payne said.

Yes, despite the assurances, it looks like the police can't find him, and they've turned to the press for help. The crime happened nearly a week ago, and they've just now released his name/photo.

Choosing not to publish juvenile's names (in most states) is a courtesy. If the police ask the local paper/station to publish, most news organizations would do it.

I'll ask again--what would you have them do?

Even if being tried as an adult they usually protect the juvenille's identity.

They aren't required to withhold the identity if they are being tried or charged as an adult.

Even if being tried as an adult they usually protect the juvenille's identity."Usually" being the keyword. There is no law for this. The guideline is the Society of Professional Journalists' Code of Ethics which says to "Minimize harm." In this case, I think we are beyond that. This animal performed a heinous act and is on the run. Fuck him. Plaster his name and picture on every telephone pole.

Police and Payne say Anderson was standing Wednesday at a bus stop on Race Street in Over-the-Rhine when Alfonso spotted her about 10 p.m.

Police said one teen grabbed Anderson's 1-year-old daughter, Jakala, from her arms and pulled her away as Alfonso grabbed his estranged girlfriend by the hair and pulled her into a building.

Anderson told police that Alfonso was trying to kill their unborn child and he and another teen kicked and stomped on her belly repeatedly.
The fetus was 20 weeks old.

I dunno - after reading that article, I have no problem with his name, photo, address, shoe size, favorite pizza topping, anything really... being posted in the news.

And furthermore, I think if everyone within the city limits spent maybe 5 minutes looking for this a-hole at the same time, and find him, the entire city would have something to be proud of.

From today's Enquirer:
Fetus murder charge proceeds
15-year-old accused of stomping pregnant ex-girlfriend

BY EILEEN KELLEY | EKELLEY@ENQUIRER.COM
Free from jail less than a month, 34-year-old Keisha Pitts repeatedly wiped tears from her eyes as a Juvenile Court judge said there was enough probable cause to go forward with a murder charge against her 15-year-old son.

Judge Thomas R. Lipps said he will decide Aug. 29 if the case against Alfonso "Lil Al" Price will be held in juvenile court or adult court.

Price and co-defendant Jebrell Wright, 17, are accused of stomping on Price's pregnant girlfriend's swollen belly July 11, causing the unborn child's skull to fracture.

Wright's case was bound over to adult court on Wednesday. Lipps ordered him to be held on a $400,000 bond.

"I'm satisfied," said Betty Payne, who would have been the great-grandmother of Kerria Anderson's baby. "I want justice to be (served) because it should be."

Because of Price's age, Lipps is required to consider a mental evaluation as well as the youth's juvenile record before making a decision on whether to have him tried as an adult.

Price has at least 10 charges on his juvenile record.

Anderson, 18, was in labor for 24 hours after being beaten in Over-the-Rhine. The baby, whom she had planned to name Precious, was pronounced dead after Anderson was checked into a hospital.

Two doctors - an obstetrician-gynecologist and a forensic pathologist - testified Wednesday that the unborn child was roughly 29 weeks into development and would have survived even 10 weeks premature had it not been for the trauma.

Anderson spent 40 minutes on the witness stand. At times, she appeared confused during questioning.

She said she was at a bus stop in Over-the-Rhine when she saw her ex-boyfriend Price and was coaxed inside an apartment building. Once inside, she testified, Wright punched her in the face with a closed fist. She said she fought back and begged Price to stop the attack.

He didn't, she said.

"'You should have got an abortion; now your baby is going to die,' " Anderson said Price told her.

On Friday, a lone person carried the small white casket through Baltimore Pike Cemetery, where Precious was buried after people pitched in to make sure there was a proper burial.

Pitts, Price's mother, sat just feet from her son during Wednesday's hearing.

Price showed little reaction to testimony from Anderson, the two doctors and Cincinnati homicide Detective Kurt Ballman.

Pitts has been arrested 42 times. She was last jailed in Hamilton County on June 27 on domestic-violence charges, On July 16, she was released without bond. Eleven days later, the charges were dismissed.
