Anybody been reading this? It's the online journal of a sound engineer/mixer in a bigtime LA studio and the asinine talentless band he has to endure along with their entourage. It is one of the funniest things I have ever read. I can't say much more because I would give away alot of the gags. It is kind of long and is not complete (eight weeks of postings so far and will pick up again when the band starts recording again). The names have all been changed...

BTW, some of the links at the end of segments are screwed up and you think you are at the end, so bookmark the first page as a table of contents.

Been reading faithfully!

I think the phrase "truth is stranger than fiction" certainly applies.

The band may be the Ataris...

however they deny it on their message board here...

For some reason I keep picturing these guys in Bitch Slap being a nu-metal band.

I had to dig this fossil of a thread up because it's funny that 97X has been playing Cave In's 'Anchor'. Cave-In is rumored to be 'Bitch-Slap.

Here's the link (Scroll about halfway down)

Mixerman says that Cave-In isn't "Bitch-Slap" and that he doesn't work for Cello Studios. Hmmmm....is he telling the truth or covering his rear?

I remember hearing the rumor that Bitch-Slap was The Ataris....after reading some of MixerMan's entries, that seemd to fit also. It's really interesting stuff, by the way.

Has it ever been revealed who Bitch Slap actually is? I kind of lost track of the story.

Yah, me too. I read the whole thing up to the point where it kinda' trailed off. He probably got threatened with a lawsuit or something.

Apparently, according to MM, Bitch Slap is going back in the studio at some point and the diary will continue then.

My guess is someone close to the band got wind of the diary and all hell broke loose. One of the last entries alludes to the bands A&R person finding out about it.

The adventures of Mixerman will be released in a hardcover book in May. No word about any updates that have occured in the last year will be part of the book.

Can't seem to find any other info.

Will Mixerman ever meet the perfect band, he could shape as his own? Will Mixerman ever sign a confidentiality contract? Will Mixerman survive this latest battle with corporate music and still have a job? Will Mixerman ever invent a antitode to cryprtonite and finally get superman off his back? These are the questions and the drama that keeps me coming back for more!

The book will be coming out in less than 2 weeks. The first 20 chapters of the book are on the website. The book has been edited, and read by several friends who have given me the thumbs up. The book also includes a foreword by Philip Stevenson, who is an engineer, writer, and usenet participant.

The first run is a hardbound edition, with a dustjacket designed by Deb Ferguson. I spent a lot of time working on the product, and I'm quite proud of the results. There is an ending chapter, and the chapter in which Penny Pincher has her hysterical fit now includes information that I was unable to divulge at the time. When you read it, you'll understand why.

I just want to say this now. If you're considering buying the book because you merely want to know the ending, don't. For all intents and purposes, if you've read everything on line, you've read the book. The final chapter is a wrap up that also explains a few things.

If any of you are trying to justify buying the book, let me help you out a little. Buy the book because you want it for your library or studio. Buy the book because you want to be able to read it in bed, rather than on a computer screen. Buy the book because one day, it will no longer be available on line to read, and you just might want to read it again one day. Buy the book because you derived immense amounts of enjoyment from it, and you'd like to read it in it's final form, as a book. Buy the book because it's the first run, and if I get this on TV like I'm planning, your first edition might have some value one day. Oh, and be sure to buy extra books and give them out as gifts.

And yes, there were always chapter titles.

Thanks for your interest. Believe me, when the books out, you'll know.

LA Weekly just ran a story on a band called Tsar.

http://www.laweekly.com/ink/06/02/class-payne.php

They seem to fit some of the Bitch Slap criteria

First Album came out two years prior to 2002 and had a minor hit.
They replaced the bass player and drummer shortly before their second album was released.
The original label (Hollywood Records) dropped them and they went to another label TVT Records.

"In classic major-label style, whatever supporters Tsar had at Hollywood ultimately departed the label, leaving the band adrift and vulnerable to attack. While Hollywood did get a new head of A&R who was, according to Whalen, a true music lover and very fond of Tsar, the label’s head honchos were so out of touch that the band felt like they were living in a purgatory-like limbo."

Anyways, could be way off but some of the pieces seem to fit.

The problem with that though is Tsar can actually be pretty good at times.
