The US invasion plan for Iraq envisaged that only 5,000 US troops would remain in Iraq by December 2006, declassified Central Command documents show.

The material also shows that the US military projected a stable, pro-US and democratic Iraq by that time.

The August 2002 material was obtained by the National Security Archive (NSA). Its officials said the plans were based on delusional assumptions.

Wow. Doesn't this point to a cadre who just is out of touch with reality? Who do we blame, the military for such a ludicrous plan (which was not subject to non-Executive Branch review) or the Executive Branch for having such a ridic thought about the situ on the ground?

Either way, not only were the reasons for going dubious, but the plan for how to go in were silly. Heck, it was even silly with the parts we did know before!

I guess we just assumed they wanted to be a US Imperial colony & they'd not just subject themselves to us, but smile while they do it! "Ripe for Regime change" ... yah, ... whatever. Yes, but this is modern warfare and I'm sure that the kind folks at the DOD can always come up with a way to breed a flying unicorn if they feel it will be the best thing for our country...or any country that we are trying to occupy.
