is it bad form to copy my own other thread title?

oh well... according to rush limbaugh, michael j fox is faking the tremors from his parkinson disease (or just not taking meds) in order to enhance the way the illness looks in a commercial for a pro stem cell candidate in missourri.

rush limbaugh is... disgusting

Rush isn't the first. Mojo Nixon claimed long ago that Mr. Fox was the anti-Elvis.

Rush is a hypocritical drug addict. I can't see how anyone can listen to the SOB - I've never been a MJF fan - but who would make such a statement? I don't follow him - but in the glimpses I've seen of the poor guy he obviously has something wrong.

My only hope for the US is that the public matures & stops listening to sound-bites - idiots like Rush do not deserve their spot in the public eye and I believe people are smart enough be disgusted by such a claim.

I actually thought he looked relatively well considering how his tremors were the last time I remember seeing him. That was quite a while ago and I expected them to be worse.

Screw Rush...really...he is a twit, and I can't stand the fact that he waves the republican flag like some ultrapatriot. All he has is a microphone, and a big ego, and he is losing his audience.

There's nothing like an apology from Rush:

from the Washington Post:

Limbaugh apologized on Monday, then shifted his ground and renewed his attack on Fox.

"Now people are telling me they have seen Michael J. Fox in interviews and he does appear the same way in the interviews as he does in this commercial," Limbaugh said, according to a transcript on his Web site. "All right then, I stand corrected. . . . So I will bigly, hugely admit that I was wrong, and I will apologize to Michael J. Fox, if I am wrong in characterizing his behavior on this commercial as an act."

Then Limbaugh pivoted to a different critique: "Michael J. Fox is allowing his illness to be exploited and in the process is shilling for a Democratic politician."

Slimy.

shocking that we wouldn't like a bigot, asshole, slimeball whose training as a political commentator came as a rock dj and work done for the kansas city royals baseball team... who claims that drug addicts should be locked up and the key thrown away then gets busted for drugs himself... who decries gay marriage as an affront to the sanctity of marriage but is married what 2 or 3 times himself... i'm sure i'm leaving something stupid that he has said or done or advocated off of this simple list but you get the idea.

So I heard Rush's comments. First of all, what factual basis does he have to back this up?!?!? Second of all, my DAD HAS PARKINSON'S!!! Rush said that, in the end, medication can only work for so long and then the Parkinson's wins.

HOW THE FUCK DOES HE KNOW THAT AND FURTHERMORE, WHAT GIVES HIM THE RIGHT TO PASS JUDGEMENT?!?!

Ditto, Limbaugh is a moron. I've been watching my brother in law waste away from Parkinson's for 10 years. There's a lot of promising research for Parkinson's treatment going on, and some of it is related to stem cell research. I'll take my brother in law over an embryo any day.

My dad has had Parkinsons for the last ten years. It was diagnosed a little before Michael J Fox's issues became publically known. and dad has had the same pacemakers stuck in his head that MJF has, on both halves of his brain. If you turn either pacemaker off dads arms start swinging in one foot or greater sweeps and he can't walk. His speech becomes even more slurred and drunken sounding to the point that it is completely unintelligable. If dad misses a pill, its the same thing, but not as extreme.

You know what sucks though? Is that all the treatments out there only address the symptoms. They are completely unable today to treat the cause of the disease. the disease progresses and gets worse over time. Read up on it if you want, it's a lot more debilitating then just the tremors, especially over time. The shaking is just the most visibly disturbing aspect of it.

Yeah, but there are a heck of a lot of other people, loud people, out there that will take the embryo over your brother in law. And they have a tendency to listen to Rush Limbaugh. Lots and lots of them.

I don't get this thread - what's the point of saying you hate Rush Limbaugh? Isn't that a given? Really, is it some sort of cathartic moment for the boards? It seems to me to reflect what Christopher Hutchins said about the common refrain of folks saying that George Bush is stupid. Yes, that's common knowledge, but only equally imbecilic humans keep laughing about it.Thread killer.

Unfortunately, I don't. Well, some might - and have, as been reported. But for the majority of the braindead individuals who subscribe to Fatboy's - and Hannity's, and Drudge's, and all those other neocon asshat commentators' way of thinking - there won't be anywhere near enough.

I heard Rove on NPR this morning, and in the interview he predicted solid Repub victories in two weeks. In spite of what the polls say, I still firmly believe it. As I said in another thread, I have all faith the stupidity of the American People.

I just read a very thoughtful post at Shakespearessister.blogspot/com

"To say that Limbaugh probably isn’t, in real life, the monster he plays on the radio isn’t a particularly nice thing to say about him, though it may seem so. In reality, it’s rather the opposite. I firmly believe he has the capacity to be a decent person (most people do); that he chooses to shed that decency as soon as a microphone is put in front of him speaks to the depth of his lack of character. It’s one thing to be the kind of person who truly hates the disabled by virtue of ignorance or masked fear or plain, old-fashioned intolerance; it’s quite another to affect that hatred in spite of knowing better to make money from the devotion of people who really do, by inflaming their repugnant beliefs.

Limbaugh is just one of many loathsome characters who have made names for themselves by treating politics as a game, a fun and profitable little pastime that has no real-world consequences—and the richer he gets, the more real a lack of consequences becomes for him. The luxury of staggering wealth means never having to worry about Social Security, or healthcare, or how much gas costs. It’s a game. Who cares.

And in that game, people like Michael J. Fox aren’t real people. They’re images on a screen, they’re pawns to be played. Stem cell research isn’t a real thing. It’s a political football. Safely nestled away from the real world in a radio studio, Limbaugh doesn’t want or need to think about the people he mocks, the people he uses to score a goal. And he doesn’t want or need to think about the people he addresses, either, or what it means that they might very well refuse to give up a seat on the subway, and that he provides their justification, fuels their ire. He’s just too busy having fun playing his game to be hampered by anything that matters, anything that might suggest the game he’s playing is a very dangerous one indeed."

yeah, i saw him on something at least a couple years ago and his body tremors were just as violent. but that disease is a roller coaster, depending on where you are with your drug therapy---and that's if you can tolerate the drugs. if you can't, it's just a downhill slide.

forgot to mention that the disease manifest differently in different patients. my father had violent trembling of his hands and his body froze up so that eventually he could barely move, couldn't stand, couldn't feed himself. my mother, on the other hand, had the lewy body disease spin---the trembling and freezing wasn't so bad, but she constantly fell, passed out, hallucinated. neither of them had what fox has----a sort of shaking of the upper half of his body.

there are a lot of horrible diseases out there that don't get enough funding for research. instead of blowhards like Rush yammering on about who's faking it or exaggerating, why can't the discussion just be about money for research?

why do we have to be subjected to all these pundits and shock jocks and morons and idiots from either side? just cure the fucking diseases, folks!
