in a further sign that the repubs are having a less than stellar mid-term runup, clinton has a sizeable lead against king george II in a cincinnati on-line newspaper poll (http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061024/NEWS01/61024008/-1/CINCI).

Ha! Those results are already eerily similar to the results of the last two elections. :p

Well...its not sizeable any more, and it may not even be a lead, but the very fact that it's currently a dead heat and the Enq is even running the poll at all should tell you two things.
1. Things really are that dodgy for the prez,
2. The enq really does suck for asking such a trivial and useless questions.

Clinton will keep the lead until the National GOP mounts a massive get out the vote campaign, based on the cross-referenced demographics of Wall St. Journal subscribers, Fox News Channel watchers, NRA members and Dunkin Donuts Coffee drinkers. They'll do a massive junk mail out and send out rabid emails to anyone and everyone. And then, they'll win.

But then Clinton will prevail when the National Democratic Party mounts a massive get out the vote campaign, based on the cross-referenced demographics of High Times subscribers, Newshour with Jim Lehrer watchers, Sierra Club members and Starbucks low-fat, no foam carmel latte drinkers. They'll do a massive junk mail out and hand out rabid flyers in every minority church or maybe cartons of Kools in every black neighborhood. And then, they'll win.
True story, in Houston.
The last mayor Lee Brown, organized a massive get out the vote campaign for low income Black voters. The pastors of all the cooperating churches got together to give rides to the polls. 256 buses and vans!
Now, that's a get out the vote campaign!!!!
Its cool, because I liked Lee Brown.

I think you mean....her....
from president clinton's visit today...
The Republican campaign theme, Clinton said, goes something like this:
“So we messed up, so Iraq’s not going so well, and we probably shouldn’t have put the head of the Florida Show Horse Association in charge of FEMA,’’ Clinton said, drawing a laugh from the crowd.
“But you still have to vote for us, the Republicans say, because the other side will tax you into the poorhouse and on the way there, on every street corner, you will find a terrorist, and when you try to run, you will trip over a terrorist.

That's funny.

I have a friend who knows a certain campaign manager for a candidate in Michigan (Detroit specifically). Connected to the Cranley campaign too and was in to support Cranley recently....he was talking about his "get out the vote" campaign for the African American community and how it has to go through the ministers in Detroit (there is a commitee of all the ministers who meet with various campaigns and make certain demands). it costs $250,000 to walk in the door.....half goes to the ministers pockets and they use the other half for "walking around" money (ie: handing out $20's to the populace to go vote for certain candidates). He actually has this line item in his budget for the election......
now THAT's a get out the vote campaign.
He's working for a Democrat. He said there is no way he can win the election without this "get out the vote" donation.
Fucking sad.

Hopefully tongue-in-cheek, if not, racist.

considering it's bribery at it's finest and completely illegal and subject to a minimum of 30 years in federal prison, yeah....i'd say it's not getting claimed to the IRS.
and as for this part of birds post:
"The pastors of all the cooperating churches got together to give rides to the polls. 256 buses and vans!",
i'd imagine we had a similar "get out the vote" bribe situation going on....256 buses and vans and gas and drivers and insurance and those things cost money....i'd venture that the church budgets didn't take the hit for those costs (if an audit was done), it was the campaign(s) paying for the effort....illegally. just my hunch, but educated. could also be a completely above board effort by the pastors, in which case bully for them.
