Shamless Plus - hope to see y'all there!

Pop Rocked: Gig Poster Explosion, an exhibition of rock poster art featuring some of the Midwest's finest poster artists, will take place on Saturday, January 28, 2006 from 8 p.m. to Midnight, at Elbo’s Parlour located at 200 South Jefferson Street in downtown Dayton.

This free exhibition will highlight creations by regional artists and designers focusing on posters, but also showing other works such as advertising design, CD packaging, paintings and more.

Pop Rocked will feature works by illustrator Jason Goad, Dayton based designers Denis Mutter and Scott Kustowski, Rev. Chad Wells, as well as Cincinnati based printer Powerhouse Factories, and Columbus based artists Clinton Reno, Will Ruocco and Eric Smith.

Organized jointly by Jason Goad, Denis Mutter and Elbo’s, Pop Rocked is the first of what the artists hope will become a regular event.

Rock posters, also known as gigposters have enjoyed a renaissance over the past several years, thanks to the work of nationally known artists like Art Chantry, Coop, EMEK, Derek Hess, and Frank Kozik. The scene has been chronicled in recent publications, most notably Paul Grushkin and Dennis King’s The Art of Modern Rock, a nationwide best selling art book published in November, 2004. It depicts the modern-era explosion in rock posters across the country, for well-known bands such as U2 and the Rolling Stones as well as hundreds of emergent alternative-rock bands, established jam bands, cutting-edge hip-hop groups, and hard rock and hardcore bands.

Some of the artists participating in Pop Rocked were featured in the recent collection Panda Meat, edited by Frank Kozik, and also in the above mentioned Art of Modern Rock. Some are also included in the upcoming Dark Horse Publishing title Fistful of Rock and Roll, currently being compiled by Electric Frankenstein guitarist and poster supporter Sal Canzonieri.

C'mon kids - this is not a "maybe I'll be there" thing - this is a "have your ass in class" event.
