Thanks! I did post a photo link to the rug when I hooked it last spring. I wrote an article about the significance of using art rugs as social commentary and the magazine used the rug as the cover.
Of course, this is not a huge national publication, but it is significant in fiber arts and rug hooking. Maybe I can be on the cover of Newsweek next... :p

Thanks! (and thanks for holding back on the beaver jokes. I've already heard all the ones about being a hooker. ;))
I saw a show on tv about the genocide in the Congo and other African countries and I couldn't get it out of my mind. I drew up some images and then drew up the design on the linen backing and started the hooking. It took three weeks to hook it; the rug measures 26" by 54". I wouldn't ever use it on a floor, even though it could be. It's more of a social statement than a floor covering anyhow.
Right now it's hanging at a shop near Centerville on display with the magazine and info about Women for Women Intl, the group I'm interested in helping. They help women survivors of war and genocide around the world to get their lives back to some degree.
Because of the rug, the group of women I meet with every month for our hooking group has organized a fund to which we all donate a few dollars a month. We're raising enough to sponsor two women in the Congo now. That really makes me feel good.
The rug is also going to be part of the Dayton for Darfur fundraising campaign as part of the advertising brochures. This group is having Paul Rusesabagina, the hotel manager that the Hotel Rwanda movie was based upon, come to Dayton in May to speak. I can't wait to see him and hear what he has to say.
TMI, maybe, but the rug really means a lot to me!

Not enough info. . . .where, if boarders were so inclined, could we find this shop - to take a gander, and inquire about donations?

The website for Women for Women, Intl is here:
http://womenforwomen.org/index.html
You can read about their programs and what they stand for. It was founded by a woman who survived the war in Afghanistan. I'm impressed with their attitude that people can start their lives over and learn to support themselves with a little help. With our sponsorship, our rug making group is also going to send small gifts, photos of ourselves, and other things our sponsored women might need. I think it will enrich their lives and ours, too.
Ugly Thief, scroll back to post #28 for the background of the rug! :)
The programs happening here in Dayton by the Dayton for Darfur group are locally arranged. I'll post more information about those, if any of you are interested. There will be a walk for peace on April 30th, followed by a viewing of Hotel Rwanda at the Neon Movies downtown. On the following Thursday, May 4th, there will be An Evening with Paul Rusesabagina, the hotel owner upon whom the movie was based. Details are still being worked out, but I can post them later.
I appreciate everyone's interest in this cause!
