I did not know Kari, but I've heard touching stories about her that make me wish I could have met her. The cup of praise and love for Kari overflows. I will try to make it out to this event for sure.

If I wasn't driving to Detroit that night, I'd be there.

I'll be there in spirit...

I *might* attend this, depending on some things. I am in any event first going to the St.X-Moeller basketball game with some friends, and I don't know yet what the post-game plans are (if any). If I go to this benefit, it'll be a last minute kinda-thing.

i was fortunate enough to be at least an occasional friend of hers. her and her roommates threw some pretty sweet parties, oozing with style and character.
i've said it before, but at the risk of sounding sappy i'll say it again. some people have a way about them that can pick up the mood. if you were having a shit day, you could see her and it'd be all right. she was just incredibly friendly and open. i'm pretty sad i didn't get to know her more.

i won't miss this.

silent auction of kari's works.
The silent auction is actually for work by her friends, who are established aritsts, and music packages from labels like Sub Pop.

Her work will be on display but not for sale. They are staying with her family. There will some prints of some of her works for sale though.

I don't know if it will be in the auction or a raffle, but there is a SWEET WOXY.COM package up for grabs during the course of the night. There's a ton of cd's and t-shirts (including a RARE, OUT OF PRINT 1st pressing WOXY.COM t-shirt with the band names on the back that have been gone since last summer!) filling one of our clear tote bags. I put everything I could find in that bag that would fit, so it's going to be pretty hot for the person who gets it. :-)

Also, be sure to tune in today at 4pm when The Dandybeards and The Magic Words drop in to play a few tunes and talk about the benefit.

I just went by the check things out.

Great artwork is being hung for the auction right now, including a few pieces by two different members of Grandaddy.

I shall stop by if the legs are still under me after dance class.

Dance class. That still sounds funny.
Me, dancing.

Who else will be there?

If I survive the Elder-St.X game and its after-game shenanigans, I'll be there.

Through my powers of persuasion, and a little greasing of the wheels, WXIX/FOX 19 is now planning on coming to cover this event as a favor to my station (ONN).

Hopefully they make it out, because WXIX is a bit notorious for bailing out on us at the last second.

If they do make it, this story will air across the state on ONN sometime this weekend (most likely Saturday) since it has dual relevance to Ohio (Cincinnati and Ohio U).

Gawd, I wish I had some cash for this event.
There was a work there which eerily (in a good way) reminded me of a childhood backyard scene in a recurring dream of mine.

I got to meet Shiv, Stude289, Eighty, and the lovely MalH.
What a smile!
One woman thought I was a "Phil" (sorry, nope), and I met a girl from an Over The Rhine architect's office, named Deanna, who recognized me from a downtown restaurant the other day.
All this after my dance lessons, prepping for the prom.

Cultural karma overload.
I gotta find out if that painting's still for sale.
