Ryan is one of my favs. I will surely visit Paul and Matt's gallery for this. They said it is mostly wall paintings.
Not paying twenty for the lecture though.

I don't think his talent is at all ridiculous :p

his art work isn't ridiculous... but to have that much skill, and humor and stuff is. ;]
i'd seen his painting in magazines, but looking up close at the real works--it is increadible. the Beautiful Losers show had a lot of great work in it, but his stood out on a whole other level from the rest. there was a skill level to the actual work, and there was a sense of irony and history and wit and skepticism and good-old-composition-for-nothing-but-aesthetic-enjoyment to it all.
i thought to myself, "this is looking at history." i still think that. :]

As I stated earlier he is my favorite current designer. To explain that I was joking about his talent seems redundant.

...I was joking...
i got that, no worries! ;)
i'm sure you know where PUBLICO is, artfag. but for anyone else who might be in there area for all the MPMF fun on Friday, the gallery is right around the corner from Main and 13th and well worth checking out.
basically right in between Coopers and Courtyard Cafe (google map)... (http://maps.google.com/maps?oi=map&q=1308+Clay+Street,+Cincinnati,+OH)

This show is really amazing. There are 8 or 9 really large paintings, and some of them go right over the walls and incorporate light switches or windows. It's a slight variation from his normal work, but the pieces are continuations of some of his larger themes.
it's up for a month. try to see it before it all gets painted over and is forever encapsulated in time! :D

and don't worry about parking there. it's really just fine.

I love the fact that he has completely revamped his persuits. The new venture of iconograghy is pretty interesting. His old screenprints were starting to geet a bit redundant.
Good show.
Didn't see any of you there. Though I was there afterhours.

i got there late... sometime after 10. we probably walked right by each other. who knows. it looked like people were making another 'beer run' when we left... good times. :]
oh, and i doubt he's giving up on layering multiple images. since the work isn't going to be permanent he probably tried to keep it simple. i was impressed by how strong the pieces were with just the single image/icon/composition. (& i wish i could afford one of those posters... ; )
good stuff. :]

I'm a bit confused. Is the exhibit only showing on Saturdays from 2-4. If you could just inform the uninformed on what hours I can see the show it'd be much appreciated.

yeah, that was last month's show. I didn't make it, but they just had another opening Monday night, so the RM-show is already painted over by now... :[
i do believe the gallery hours listed are good, but there will be something different every month.

I love his sense of design, especially his tapestry-like works.
In case you're interested... Ryan McGinness (http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/artists/ryan_mcginness.htm) 's works will be on display in 2007 at The Saatchi Gallery in London during their USA Today exhibition.
