Hey guys,

I saw this guy on Bill Maher last night and I liked him because (for a change) a democrat was not afraid to throw a punch or two at Bush. I know that he lost, but made a strong showing in the 2nd distrct. I think he needs to either run for Senate or Governor of Ohio.

I'm not from Ohio, and maybe you guys (so many of your are from Ohio) have seen more of him -- what do you think of this guy?

I worked on his campaign and I'm chomping at the bit to see him tackle DeWine next year. I hope he does run because he is the ideal public servant.

I have to respect a candidate who, despite having a lovely wife, kids, a nice McMansion in Indian Hill and a law degree, says he's going to re-enlist and go back to Iraq if he loses.

ya also gotta love a guy who calls rush limbaugh a "fat ass drug adict" in responce to saying hackett was only in the military to pad his resume.

...hackett was only in the military to pad his resume.

While that is probably true and while his duites there aren't exactly frontline combat, he's still sticking his neck out a hell of a lot farther than the commander in chief ever did.

Yeah, but he's still a FUCKING LAWYER. Lawyers are evil. Lawyers from Indian Hill are rich and evil and must all be destroyed by toxic flatulence if we are to ever have peace.

I heard an interview with Paul Hackett on The Ed Schultz show a couple of weeks ago and I agree that the Democrats NEED someone like him to be prominent on their side..

He's an Iraq War Vet and one that is willing to BITE back!!!

Ya know, I have a very dear republican friend (I met through the dog show world....had we not had that connection we'd have killed each other by now...) that said the same thing - the only reason she voted for Jean was because Hackett is a lawyer.

I don't get it.

In my job I've had to work closely with legal on many different issues & I've got a HUGE amount of respect for the profession. I've only worked with the big Cincinnati firms - but condemning them as a lot is foolish. I've seen some pretty bad opposing counsel & I've watch the other side mislead their clients hoping to make a buck....but what profession doesn't have good & bad eggs?

Not all lawyers are vultures.

while this doesn't explain's ddave's post. the right loves to demonize lawyers because so many of them are democratic supportors, especially trial lawyers. people like to blame them for the ills of society, so they're an easy target.

Everybody hates lawyers until they need one.

I hate lawyers, because so many of us need them. They have built themselves into the system, and we are dependent upon their every parasitic move.

In the United States, there is no truth. Truth can only be litigated.

We need more farmers, mechanics, bus drivers, you know, working people in government. The professional class in America largely only knows a Disneyland suburban existance that is of no use to our future and a threat to our present.

As to the arrows just slung at me, I'd consider myself an independent progressive politically thank you.

You slam Hackett for being a lawyer, but what was Bush before becoming a Governor? A trust fund baby.

Since politics is about the law, more lawyers are going to end up in politics. Just the way it is.

Frist is a doctor that seemingly can diagnose people he's never seen in person, or actually says publicly that AIDS can be spread through tears.

I like Hackett becaue he's not afriad to criticze the President on the war - he should know, he was there. Gives him a lot of credibility on the issue. I don't know what else he stands for- he could be pretty conservative on a lot of issues - but I want more guys like him to speak out and take shots. The Neocons have no rock bottom, they attacked John McCain's service, for crying out loud and then had campaigners in 2000 call people in South Carolina to tell them McCain had a black baby. (actually it was Strom Thurmond). they will go to any depth to smear good people. I liked John McCain, one of the few Republicans I actually respected, but then he started kissing Rove's ass and now I don't respect him anymore. I want a Democrat that goes after these bastards and attacks them and shows what a bunch of Jesus-using hypocrites they really are.

I just want to know more about him. I know 2008 is out of the question, but when Jeb is elected in 2008 the Democrats are going to need Ohio in 2012, maybe Hackett/Obama is the ticket.

GOD I hope you are wrong about Jeb...never thought about Hackett/Obama - that would be interesting.

I'd have to say "Not all lawyers are greedy, smarmy douchebags that use the system to their financial advantage".

Judging someone just on whether or not they are a lawyer is pretty short sighted. I agree that lawyers and legalese have made things a lot more difficult for the average citizen to where they need to have a translator for any contract, but I can't just see how making a blanket statement that all lawyers are bottom feeding jerkoffs is a progressive mindset. There are more than just corporate trial lawyers out for a buck in this world.

I liked Paul Hackett. As far as he being a lawyer, I would rather have someone who can understand the language and work with it than someone who has no clue, but good intentions.

I can 99.9% guarantee that Jeb won't be President in '08.

I've been saying it for almost a year, but this guy (http://www.colorado.gov/governor/bio.html) will be the next Republican to run for el presidente.

Hackett/Obama won't happen unless Hackett becomes Governor of Ohio.

Senators & Congresspersons don't win presidential elections unless they do time in the President's Cabinet or as a Vice President.

I like Hackett, but he needs to make a mark in politics before he can be seriously considered a player.

But, put your money on Ted Strickland (http://www.house.gov/strickland/) in 2012.

I like Hackett because he has a spine and is not afraid to say what needs to be said. He hasn't got the "polish" of a lifelong politician, and when he says what he thinks, I believe him. I also agree with him.

He called Bush a chickenhawk SOB, which delights me no end. I think having him speak out, as a genuine veteran of this misbegotten war in Iraq, is going to encourage other Democrats with less balls to finally speak out.

His showing in the most recent election is a positive sign because he was relatively unknown and made a real run at the office. I think he's going places and I hope he's ready.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Tim Ryan, a strong senate contender for 2006, said he would concentrate on running for re-election and threw his support behind Hackett for Senate in 2006.

Hackett is currently with Dem Sen Leader Harry Reid and Senate Campaign Committee Chairman and Senator Schumer, certainly trying to see if he'll get support running for senate.
