QB-needy Bears sign Blake Click here to find out more!
NFL.com wire reports

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. (Aug. 14, 2005) -- The Chicago Bears agreed to a one-year deal with veteran quarterback Jeff Blake Aug. 14, two days after Rex Grossman broke his left ankle.

Grossman, expected to be the starter, was scheduled for surgery Aug. 15 and will miss three to four months. The injury occurred during the second quarter of the team's preseason game at St. Louis, when he was flushed from the pocket and twisted to the turf by the Rams' Trev Faulk.

Grossman tried to walk off the field, before crumbling and grabbing his leg in pain.

Chad Hutchinson is now the starter and rookie Kyle Orton the backup. Coach Lovie Smith said that won't change with the addition of Blake, a former Pro Bowl selection.

"I've been saying all along: I feel real good about the guys we have here," Smith said.

Blake has appeared in 117 games and passed for 21,656 yards for six teams in 13 seasons. His longest stay was with Cincinnati from 1994-99.

So he's a third-string QB now. Wow, impressive. He'll most likely never step on to that field this year.

The Bears starting QB in now Chad Hutchinson. :p
Having said that, I think there is a good shot that Jeff Blake wil get some playing time by mid season!

Best Jeff Blake memory...

Went to a Bengals game back in the day when Blake was QB'ing. Sat behind a couple of obese, drunken hillbillies. I was shocked, because that type of person is rarely found in Cincy. But, I digress...

Anyway, this was one of those games where the Bengals actually had a chance. Can't remember the opponent, but it was a close game. At some point, when the game was like 14-10 in the opponent's favor, these drunk tools kept yelling "Jeff Blake is just a flash in the pan!! Flash in the pan!!" Sad thing is he was picking up the offense and pushing the Bengals down the field not once, twice, but three drives in a row. All the while "Flash in the pan!!". The Bengals went on to take the game by a substantial margin, and the guys just kept up with the "Flash in the pan!!". Eventually, they got escorted out of the game, much to the pleasure of everyone sitting around them. Now, everytime my brothers and I see Jeff Blake on TV we yell "Flash in the pan!!"

I know the meaning behind "Flash in the pan!!", but why these guys ever considered Jeff Blake good enough to even be a flash is beyond me. He's more of a fizzle.

That is a great story gwar!

This not really a Jeff Blake from myself, but it is one of my favorites.

A BUDDY, and I just recently threw a hand-me-down couch to the trash. They called it the "Jeff Blake couch". Buddy, (that is his name) told me that back in the day at a friends apt. there was a good late night party going on, and Jeff came over, and partied late night for a couple of hours. He sat on that couch the whole time.
Jeff Blake did not have another good game after that. They say that couch was the beginning of the end of Jeff's career!!!!! :p :D
