From which website(s) do you get your general sports news?

ESPN, Sportsline, and for Reds stuff, there's a Reds one I go to that is run by fans.

Yeah, I guess I was thinking about general sports news.

The reason I did this was because I don't want to link to articles that people have already read; I'd rather link to articles that people wouldn't ordinarily encounter.

ESPN, MLB.com, and other sites occasionally. Mostly those two though.

Cleveland.com gives me all my Indians, Cavs and Browns coverage from the Plain Dealer. They also have great blogs by a writer for each team. Those blogs do a great job of giving me the scoop and giving all sides of the stories.

ESPN and CBS Sportsline primarily, CNNSI has good columnists; Sporting News and Fox Sports merged their web operations, so your list has one too many choices. I also go to a Detroit Tigers blog, ChampCarFanatics, and a bunch of other racing-related sites, plus College Football News, and US College Hockey Online.

I generally go to Yahoo Sports and to the N.Y. Mets website. Occasionally I will go to MLB.com, but for the most part I tend to stick to yahoo and my teams' websites.

I generally go to ESPN, despite my bitter hatred for Buster Olney.

Actually, I hate a lot of the writers there, Olney, Gammons, Bayless, etc.

I hate that almost everything on ESPN.com now is Insider. I can't read any of the good stuff without paying for a subscription.

As far as general sites, mostly tsn.ca because they have the most and best hockey coverage.

I also keep up on hockey news at uscho.com and hfboards.com. I post about hockey at metroboards.com. As far as hockey blogs, I read PuckUpdate and Jez Golbez' Hockey Rants. I will admit to occasionally having looked at Eklund's blog over the past few months, but only ironically.

For soccer I mostly read the Guardian's football page, and also nufc.com for Newcastle news.

And this is a bad thing?? The clowns on ESPN drive me to drink. They are all just so fuckin' full of themselves, with their little catch-phrases and phony 'spur-of-the-moment' calls of replays. And Berman's shtick has outlived it's usefulness. John Miller and JOe MOrgan spend more time bullshitting than they do paying attention to the game they are supposed to be calling. This entire network has gone totally downhill over the last 5 years. It's not about sports anymore, it's about Entertainment. They should just drop the S and call themselves EPN from now on.

mike doesn't like that...i would just give you the password, but i fear everything will fall apart if i do...like the espn.com people will notice that there is ANOTHER url using the password and cancel it.

One of my friends had Insider who shared the password with a few dozen people, and they in turn did the same. After about a year, ESPN got hip to it and there was some message about the password being used on so many computers at once.

my friend has offered to share insider with me, but I havent bothered with it yet...
Im making a conscious effort to go to espn less because
a) Im beginning to despise ESPN more and more as a corporate entity
b) I can barely stand to watch sportscenter or listen to half the blowhards on said network
c) I find the fact that they charge you for over 50% of their content to be borderline offensive. If you want me to pay you to read some article that probably wont tell me shit about who might be traded where, then take all the damn pop-ups off your site.

a) I've despised them as a corporate entity since 1998, when they wouldn't shut up about the Hartford Whalers moving away, and their petulant reaction toward the Hurricanes destroyed any semblence of journalistic credibility they have.

b) Agreed. The 11 pm SportsCenter was "appointment TV" with Dan and Keith. Now, I only watch it if I'm too lazy to change the channel from when the baseball game is over.

c) Word. Although, using Firefox, I never get the pop-ups anymore. ;)

I was beginning to wonder if my friend Brain and I(and Lance McAllister too) were the only ones who'd noticed the way Stu has tried to ghettofy himself over the past few years and in the process become just a walking punchline.
I watch ESPNews for my sports. Scott Van Pelt used to be on all the time before he "graduated" to the main channel. Keith Russell is still one of my favorites. You dont have the crappy sentimental tug at your heartstrings bullcrap stories on ESPNews, because they dont have the time.

Also, I decided for good that I cant really stand ESPN last football season when I was watching pregame shows one week. All the channels were talking about Ricky Williams doin dope.
Fox did a somewhat humorous parody sendup of the situation.
ESPN treated it like it was an issue on par with poverty in 3rd world countries. It was quite insulting, because they assumed
a) their viewership was completely naive to the fact that anyone, let alone athletes, smoked pot
b) they acted as if their viewership didnt know anything about pot in general, they approached the subject in much the same manner that Sesame Street would try to show children that 1+1=2
c) they talked about it with this holier than thou air, as if they couldnt believe anyone would ever consider smoking something as harmless (albeit illegal) as pot, even though probably 85% of their viewership has probably at least tried pot once in their life
d) they acted as if athletes smoking pot was the worst thing to happen in the history of sports...worse than arnold rothstein fixing the 1919 world series

In other words, it completely insulted my intelligence as a sports fan. Plus, it was dumb, uninformative, and a complete waste of time for the 3-4 minutes it was on.
Needless to say, we watched Fox poke fun at Ricky Williams

He wasn't black enough and had to try to gain some street cred, but has become a total lame-o tool. I am really tired of Chris Berman too. Everyone there thinks he is God, so he does whatever he wants including listing 15 plays as 1 in his countdowns.

You used to be about the highlights, man. What happened? I...I don't know, dude. You've changed.

I used to be able to sit through two loops of SportsCenter, but now with all the stories it is sometimes painful just to wait for the Twins highlights I want. And THEN, I get like 2 highlights. It's pathetic. I can get more highlights on the local sports. It's not right.

As bad as it was before (and it was bad), I think the turning point came during that year-long orgasmafest that was ESPN's 25th anniversary celebration. What a crappy load of crap that was.

Giving ESPN the chance to celebrate its own existence was like giving a narcissist a mirror for his birthday. Or a 15-year-old boy a box of tissues and a bottle of hand cream.

And yes, Chris Berman has become a parody of himself. There's a reason none of the other people who were at ESPN in 1979 are still there. They've all moved on. Berman clearly has not.

I forgot to mention how SportsCenter trots on all of these personalities or "experts" to talk/debate about shit. Namely Sean Salsbury (you were a shitty quarterback and not much better analyst), Jon Clayton (who argues with Salsbury about who is being more stupid), and Mel Kiper Jr.'s chin and hair.

I hate Chris Berman more than life itself

...wait, that makes no sense

Chris Berman is a phony and a blowhard. His act is tired. People who think he is a good analyst, color man, announcer, or whatever are ignorant twats. People who think he is funny or are entertained by him in any way deserve to be pistol whipped.

I still like ESPN, but it is declining in quality and I am afraid that someday they will piss me off something royal (more likely with their website) and that will be the end of ESPN for me. I hope that day does not come. I still really like Baseball Tonight even though they have like 15 guys on the show now and still watch SportsCenter quite a bit, not nearly as much as I used to though.

I go there for Bill Simmons if nothing else...
they are the leader, but that doesnt mean they arent chock full of crap, too.
They give just as many reasons to despise them as they do to like them. Everyone else is just so far behind.
And Ive recently made an effort to go to The Sporting News more often
