Barry Bonds met w/ his team & reporters today & said that he is not sure if he can play this season, but will definitely play in 2006.
Who else thinks it would be great if Bonds re-injured himself when he comes back & is unable to ever play again - right after hitting his 713th HR ?
I think that would be awesome !

Didn't he say in spring training that he was going to play this season? And now he's not.
The steroids must not be fully out of his system yet.

Didn't he say in spring training that he was going to play this season? And now he's not. Here is exactly what he said to the reporters yesterday : "I've had three surgeries. If I had one, it would take from six to eight weeks to recover. I've had three of them," Bonds said. "The last one was May 2 and it's only July 17. For the most part, I feel great. I'm just going to stay positive and hope I get back. I'm not even counting out this year."
If it takes 6-8 weeks to recover from surgery & his last surgery was more than 10 weeks ago, then why is there any question as to whether or not he'll be available during this season ? Personally, I think he's taking his sweet old time recovering. He sure as hell doesn't seem like he's too anxious to get back, does he ? He's getting paid $22 million just to go through rehab this whole year!
.....and if you're only 53 HRs away from becoming the all-time HR leader, then you KNOW there isn't a chance in hell that the team you are with is going to put you on waivers because you have an injury. So, why not just sit on your ass for a season ?

i'm not the biggest fan of bonds...BUT let's look at the numbers...
7-mvp awards
13-time all-star
8-gold gloves
2-batting titles
4-30/30 season's (30 hr's and 30 stolen bases)
1-40/40 season
he's been walked an astounding 2,302 times...603 of them intentional
a career .300 hitter
yes he may be surly, arrogant, and just plain full of himself, but i think's he's earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to playing time.
i'm not defending bonds, he's done a ton of shit wrong with his personality. he's probably alienated every SINGLE player he's ever been involved with.
BUT
steroids or no steroids---those are impressive numbers.
i think the dude will be 41-years old next season...i would really like to see him try and catch hank aaron. that would be a great story. because, i think we all know, this will NOT be the same barry bonds we're used to seeing. i hope he has to battle and grind his way to the title.
screw babe ruth...he's gotten enough generous pub by the press.

Ah, the dreaded "steroid" thread.
Hope he never comes back.

Your telling me that onw of his famous press conferences aren't one of the most entertaining things ever. If he goes, his ranting and raving will go too.
I'm not ready for that. He needs to pass Ruth then unload in his post game conference

It takes 6-8 weeks to recover if he had one surgery. He has had 3 and he is 41 years old. No doubt it is going to take more than 6-8 weeks. I've felt this whole time that it would be tough for him to come back at all this season.

It would be sad story, if Hank Aaron were replaced in the record books by Barry Bonds.
Hank Aaron is a mensch. Barry Bonds is a tool.

You guys all remember what Bonds said in all the Steroid fiasco don't you???
"I didn't know it was steroids, I just thought is was creme that helped me heal faster"....
The guy has been using the roids and they have been keeping him healthy, it is no coincidence to me that he just happens to be unhealthy the year steroids are taken out of the picture.
Barry Bonds is 40 years old... Without his steroids he is going to come back and he is going to play like he's 40 years old. I say it is going to be a sad sight to see one of the greatest players to ever play the game struggle and limp to the finish line trying to chase a record that he has no business having.

It takes 6-8 weeks to recover if he had one surgery. He has had 3 and he is 41 years old. No doubt it is going to take more than 6-8 weeks.I understand that he has had 3. But I am saying it has been 10 weeks since his last one. I'm not saying he should have returned already since it has been 10 weeks, but shouldn't the possibility of him playing sometime this season be strong ?
