Right now, my favorite is Lance Mcalister on 1360 homer, followed by Dan Patrick on ESPN radio, and then Jim Rome is my third favorite. The two angry guys yell too much, Andy Furman is obnoxious, and Jeff Piecoro is kinda boring.

There is not a single sports talk show that I will listen to. Here in NY we have Mike and the Mad Dog, a Pair of pompous assholes if ever there were any. My beef with sports talk is simple. These assholes have never owned, managed, general managed or even coached a team, but they have all the answers for what is wrong with any and every team. And don't you dare disagree with them, they are all-knowing, Like God, and you cannot dispute anything they say. What morons. And Jim Rome! Ever since that debacle with Jim Everett I have absolutely no respect for this asshole. And anybody connected with ESPN blows. This station used to be about sports, but now it's all about self-promotion and image. I can't even watch SportsCenter without having to deal with all the self-promoting, artificial, totally rehearsed calls of stupid anchor-people with their own agenda. They are all obnoxious if you ask me.

This really only annoys me when they get into the Xs and Os of sports. If they stay a reasonable distance away from that, I think their opinion is as justified as any. (Such as, "This was the most boring series in recent memory." I don't think you need big league experience for that.)

They do tend to go overboard with the self-promotion. I know this is an integral part of running a TV station, but its just too much. Then again FOX does this a lot too, and they're promoting Desperate Housewives and So You Think You Can Dance.

I will not even comment on FOX. Okay, yes I will. Any station that enlists Tim McCarver as an announcer sucks big time. And Jack Buck must spin in his grave every time that idiot son of his opens his mouth. And all the gimmicks and bells and whistles and shameless self-promotion makes me sick. Anybody remember Bob Costas and Tony Kubek? Or Bob Costas and Joe Garagiola? Or Bob Costas and Bob Uecker? See a pattern here? How can one of the greatest play-by-play men in history not be calling games? Ridiculous!!!

...theres someone that used to be on 1360 around 7pm who got bumped...Steve Sabin I think. He was hilarious. Id put him in my top 3.
I think Furman is a moronic windbag who talks out of both sides of his mouth and gets the least intelligent callers in the world
I think Jeff Picoro is boring, does a horrible job, and I've met him in person and think he's a bit of a slimeball.

Thanks for the 2 cents friz
Seriously...to a small extent you're right. There are sports junkies. There are people who spend (IMHO) way to much time watching, reading about, listening to, talking about sports.
OK, now consider people who watch Entertainment Tonight...and the E network...and read People magazine...and have Oscar parties...
Thats twice as pathetic (again IMHO)
When you think about it, with the advent of the internet, evrything is overanalyzed...and by loggin on to do nothing but complain about it, youve become part of the problem ;)
I can NOT stand Jim Rome either...haven't since day one, even before the Everett incident I couldn't stand him. He just seems like he wants stir up controversy where there is none...very sad.
I didnt care for Rome when I first heard him, but he has evolved a lot over the years. If that is really your impression about Rome, I would recommend you give the show a few listens because that couldnt be further from the truth. He'll flame on people, but only those who deserve it (ala Kenny Rogers)

Jack Buck was great and I could tolerate Tim McCarver just because he was on Jacks team. Costas is the best sports broadcaster/interviewer/commentator to ever live, but he has (I believe) exclusive deals with NBC and HBO that while extremely lucrative, prevent him from actually being a part of almost all major sporting events since ESPN, Fox, CBS, and ABC have their nasty little hands in seemingly everything.

I had the same distaste for him when I first heard him. Now, he cracks me up, though I rarely get to listen anymore. His show seems like it has a lot of guests and a lot of good interviews these days. The smack is usually reserved for deserving targets and back and forth amongst the clones.
My favorite thing "recently" - and this will tell you how often I get to listen - was his ranting about the 98 Degrees guy who was going to run for mayor of Cincy. He kept calling him a "man bander." And of course, the "Jim Rome letter" format is fucking awesome... regarding the "man bander" most of the emails went something like this:
"Dear Jim,
There's nothing wrong with [whatever his name is] running for mayor.
Sincerely,
Sonny Bono, Clint Eastwood and Arnold Schwarzenegger"

Actually, since I have become a regular .com listener here, I rarely listen to Rome anymore. Id occasionally go to the website to read the emails, but they hardly ever update them anymore.

Are you going to stick around and participate as a sports fan friz? Or are the frisbee links the only sport you care for?[/honest question]
the entire 1360 staff is dreadful. The 2 angry guys match their wholly unrealistic expectations with their wholly unreasonable and absolute pessimism to make for a completely non-entertaining and non-informative show. They would complain if the Bengals went 16-0 and they would complain if they went 0-16 and they would complain about every record in between because the competition was weak or because of some other non-sense. McAlister is the best of the group and he goes off the deep end with analysis that drives me nuts sometimes.
1450 the ticket (especially with the addition of Mike and Mike in the Morning) is the superior local sports radio. Mostly because the station now lacks local windbags! At least you can turn on the station and get some sports news that has a national perspective.
1460 the Fan in Columbus has Kirk Herbstreit and that is the best sports talk show. Its entertaining and informative and because Herbie is the man on ESPN College Gameday he is able to break down local sports in Columbus as well as interview/analyze from a national perspective. He gets all the interviews and guests he wants. The biggest problem the show has is keeping a sidekick for him. They all get big-time word of mouth from the ESPN national guys the show has on and move to other cities to start their own shows.
Now my rant is over.

Oh, I'll hang around and talk sports occasionally. I've put in $.02 about the Bengals, Reds, Bearcats, and Muskies, but these days I'm out 'til 9:00 every night golfing. :D
Don't know about this thread, though. I'll politely bow out. I don't like sports talk at all. I really can't stand to listen to radio jocks argue with unemployed armchair quarterbacks.

If I'm not listening to my music or WOXY, I listen to 1360.
The 2 Angry Guys are hilarious, especially when the Reds or Bengals are awful. It's a riot whenever they play clips from Dan O'Brian's opening press conference. I can't say Rick Aponte or Mertha Campbell anymore without cracking up. Gamble and Skinner are best when they're together though, I miss the shows when they would do three hours together.
I used to love listening to Rome. I've even called his show a few times and had a "call of the day" three years ago. His show hasn't been the same since he started to sell the online passes. His shows have started to conform to segments, where as the old shows were free flowing. More callers, mre e-mails, less guests = better show.
Like the 2 Angry Guys, I've been listening to Lance since he was on 1160 BOB and he's a professional. At times, he can be as dorky as his taste in music suggests, but he puts on a good show and doesn't let himself get into the way of what callers want to talk about.
The best guy I've heard anywhere is Paul "The Fish" Sturgeon. He used to do the afternoon drive on 1160 and he is probably the funniest person I've ever heard on radio or even TV. I just wish there would be a way for him to come back. :(

When I'm in the car and the radio is on, then I'm tuned in to 1360.
I'm a fan of the 2 Angry Guys and Lance McAllister. Lance can get a little annoying at times, but there's no denying that he puts in countless hours preparing for his shows.
I'm impartial to Jeff Piecorro. I'll listen to him, but that's mainly because it's better than nothing. I do like the local sports talk much better than the national stuff, so Piecorro is better than when Tony Kornheiser was on, in my opinion.
Jim Rome? Don't like him, and don't listen to him.
1360 fill-ins: Greg Waddell- I don't like him much at all. Too much rambling without getting anywhere. And the worst fill-in of all has gotta be Mo Egger. I heard him on there this morning, and I'm not sure what or who he is trying to imitate, but it sounds like he's trying to be Tom Gamble and is failing miserably.
Who I really miss the most is when the Wildman was on from 9am-noon. He was probably my favorite local sports talk host.

nah, costas loves to put himself into every story he files...if you watch the show "costas now" and you look at his report with reggie miller..you'd see he practically begged to shoot free throws with miller..which had nothing to do with the story...that is par for the course with costas...

Costas Coast to Coast, broadcasting from Cleveland the evening of "The Drive". I stayed on the line long enouh to get on the air: "They may be going to the Super Bowl, but Cleveland has something they'll never have. The Indians." Costas: "Ooh, a bitter, bitter Cleveland fan." I remember the 'Couch Potato Radio' show he hosted while the Bengals games were in progress during the dismal years and you could call in with instant reaction to a specific play. That was some of the most entertaining radio ever!
souds like that would be cool. Never heard of anything like that. I would have called in to that. I would have been drunk though, causeing them to take me off the radio immediately.
