Here's an interesting story on possible new airport security (http://news.com.com/Airport+screeners+could+see+X-rated+X-rays/2100-7348_3-5718163.html?tag=nefd.top) . Acceptable or Unacceptable security measure?

I'm against this. I've already been exposed to numerous X-Rays, MRI's, CT Scans, and bone scans that I don't want anymore exposure, however unharmful it may be.

i don't want my hoo-hoo exposed to random dirty old men working at airports. or clean young women, for that matter.

Either they use it with your consent or not. Why get all distraught over your body parts anyway? Do you think that's what they're worried about?

Get over your bodily hangups plz.

Yes! Let's let terrorists win because we don't want someone to "see through our clothing!"
It's MUCH worse than having a physical!
Keeping my buttocks unseen is MUCH more important than preventing weapons on borad airplanes!

The person observing the screen will be behind a curtain and won't be able to see the passenger.

I can't really comment much on what's to come because it's still up in the air, but it will be MUCH more effective than what's in place now.

Guess one can't complain about the radiation.
They'll get 100X more on the flight.

eh...i still disagree.
It wasn't like "the terrorists" got on board with some sophisticated weaponry that could only be detected with some futuristic x-ray machine. and please don't give me the "well don't fly" then crap. That would automatically prohibit you from holding any number of positions for an essentially unrelated reason.

I'm sure there will be an alternative full body pat-down if you choose not to walk through the backscatter X-ray.

Also, our main concern is suicide bombers. Bombs can be made with little or no metal. The backscatter X-ray would be much more effective than the current walk through metal detectors in place right now. While we still look for knives and guns, we're really worried about the stuff that goes boom.

hey.......
HEY!!!
Why do you think I got into x-rays to begin with? lookin' at yer underthings. Oh yeah. naa, as far as radiation goes, airline pilots get the eqivalent of like 1 Chest x-ray every 8 hours in the air, since the cockpits aren't protected overhead by lead(solar radiation).
The average human receives 361mR of radiation every year, from terrestrial, solar, etc. sources. While this is a threshold quantity of radiation, it is still considered "safe". unless you were x-rayed like 4000+ times, it would probably not have any statistical effect. uh....take my word for it?

i think we really need to address the flight delay situation.
as a somewhat 'frequent flyer', i've only had 1 flight out of 15 in the last 4 years that actually took off on time.

more frustrations

1. 12 hour layover in philly a couple weeks back
2. lost luggage coming home from Europe
3. unexplained 'standing water' in the bottom of the plane en route to Europe.
4. cancelled flights to the point where i came damn close to camping out
on the floor of a concourse at O'Hare a couple years back
5. driving to Columbus to catch a flight to Florida, ended up connecting in
cincinnati with a 2 hour layover (this made absolutely no sense, i drove to
another city to fly 'home' before flying to my destination), but it saved
300$...what the?
6. customs chaos
7. i can't keep track of all the airline mergers...what do i do with my
frequent flyer miles?
8. smashed baggage

the airline industry has a LOT of problems, not just security

the airline industry has a LOT of problems, not just security

Amen.

I feel for the flying public because I've flown a lot throughout my life and I'm very much aware of all the hassles than can occur. The finger has to be pointed at somebody, and the TSA seems to be a good target for the press and public. Don't get me wrong, I'm aware that the TSA has it's problems, but so do the airlines, the companies contracted by the airlines, etc... And I thought my days of being criticized were over when I stepped out of the music biz. :)

I feel for the flight attendants.

Step 1) Visit the gate agent. A number of things could happen here that could get your day off to a bad start. Canceled flights, delays, too much luggage, so on and so forth...

Step 2) After the gate agent pisses you off, you have to come through security where you stand the chance of all sorts of things happening. Secondary screening of bags or person, confiscation of items, lines, selectee lanes and so on.

Step 3) Now that you're really good and pissed off, you get to go let off some steam on the poor flight attendant who isn't responsible for any of it! :) Plus the flight attendants have to juggle the ego's of the pilots as well.

That is why I feel for the Flight Attendants.

But back to the topic, the backscatter X-rays are a great tool and I can't wait until CVG gets their hands on them.
