View Full Version : Jesse Jackson Speech
Orville Wrong

Jesse Jackson came right out today and said that he hates Jews, and is tired of apologizing for his "Heimietown" remarks 20 years ago. His plan: kill them. The Reverend Farrakhan immediately lauded Jackson's remarks, and appointed a select committee of Nation of Islam members to arrive at a "Final Solution."
They didn't really say these things, but the tragic thing is how I'm prepared to think they did. So they might as well have.
Talk about "uppity."

I hope he didn't really say "final solution."

I totally made that up. But it sounds to me like something he would say, so I think I'm fully justified in being pissed off.

I don't get it.
Read the Si Leis thread.

I was hoping so. It seemed to fit well.

I'm still gonna go read.
For someone that slags on themselves for lack of education, you read a hell of a lot. You're not uneducated, you're an autodidact.

Point taken in a way, I suppose. The fact those those remarks were incorrectly attributed to Leis sucks. And not being from the area I guess I'm not as familiar with all the goings on. All I know is that Leis was kind of a jackass about the whole Mapplethorpe thing.
The fact that Jesse Jackson and Farakhan may be jackass liberals has nothing to do with Leis. If your point here is to point out that Jackson and Farakhan are assholes, fine. Let us say I agree with you.
Where does that get us? It's still not relevant in any way. At best, all it does is hint that there are jackasses on both sides of the fence. Not all liberals agree with Jackson, just as I'm sure not all conservatives agree with Leis, regardless of whether he said those things or not.
Leis didn't say those things, so in this instance he's exonerated. Game over. I guess I just don't see the point in complicating the issue.

No thanks. But aren't there still a few states where you can "read for the Bar?" Maybe not.

My point was more about duemellon, who upon being hoaxed, basically blamed Leis anyway because, after all, he's the kind of guy who due thinks would say something like that.
And this from our resident and soi disant expert on stereotyping.

Fair enough. It was an honest mistake, but Due should've checked his facts. The excuse that "Yeah well he could've said it" doesn't really cut it. That's mere conjecture which is a far different thing from stating something as a truth.
Still would have preferred you simply call Duemellon on the untruth than introduce other parties and other fake quotes into it, but I see your point.

Fair enough. I had hoped that the "quotes" were ridiculous enough that no one would take them too seriously. While it's pretty clear that Jackson and Farrakhan are anti-semites, they aren't eliminationists.

And this from our resident and soi disant expert on stereotyping. My source, a person who I've met, said they actually contacted VXU & the Sherrif's department for verification.
Do I need to do that with everything? Do you contact the 1,000 ppl in a poll to verify their answers? Do you only believe sources that come from "trusted news outlets"?
Jeasuss!
Then you said I blamed Leis b/c he's the kind've guy who'd say something like that.
Isn't is sad that many of us would think so? Damn. I didn't say it was justified, or should be attributed to him, or even speaks of the views he does have, just that ppl actually kind've expect that of him & were ready to accept it.
You, OWrong, have a problem.

Exactly! What the hell is the point of starting a thread like this? The comment made in the other thread was enough. The argument was better kept there.

Hey, when I did something like this I kept it non-political and over-the-top stupid on purpose.
Contrary to popular belief, I was just trying to ease the tension from the racism thread. I wasn't in anyway trying to make a point about any other boarder, threads or political point of view. But since a few people took it the wrong way, I realized it was a mistake and deleted it.

Oh, for the love of Mike: Jackson and Farrakhan having a Wannsee Conference isn't over the top enough?

Well, that's not going to happen here.
And, due: I have nothing but sympathy for you vis-a-vis buying this story. I've been hoaxed myself on stories with provenances worse than what you had here. I have no interest in researching every flag I run up the pole here, and don't want anyone else to feel they have to do some rigorous due diligence (ha!) on material quoted in this setting. That's why I haven't faulted you for that, here or on the Leis thread.
But I was put off by the "tragic" comment. Maybe I misunderstood it, but even now you're still maintaining that it's tragic that "ppl" expected this kind of thing from Leis instead of saving even more letters and saying "I." Everyone else was just following your lead.
As to my having a problem, it turned out to be a loose alternator connection -- less than $10. Good as new. Thanks for your concern.

But I was put off by the "tragic" comment. If this speech was given by Bill Clinton no one would buy it. If it was given by Ann Coulter, people would. If it was given by Jerry Fallwell people would believe it. If it was given by Biship Tutu, no, no one would.
Thus my point about the "tragic". U'kno? I wish we (I & the ppl I hang with who sent me this in the 1st place as well as the others on the board who would believe it) would've looked at it & instead of just saying: "that's ridiculous" we'd've been able to say "Si Leis would never say that in a hundred years!"
But I couldn't. It seemed to suit him. IT seemed plausible.
