Being a Jesuit-phile and leftist-Catholic, I've never been angrier at my Church than now.
Jesuit Forced to Resign (http://www.nationalcatholicreporter.org/update/bn050605.htm)
I want to cancel my subscription in anger, but the guy who is taking over is Reese's right hand man and another execellent mind. If the Church splits, I'm siding with the Jesuits.

Can you give me some more background? I'm not catholic or intimately familiar with the working of the Catholic church but I AM curious about what is going on.

Maybe it's getting to be like a club. Kicked out for not adhering to the rules.
According to the higher ups, good Christians can't even entertain opposing arguments to the faith. It's like being guilty of adultery by just thinking about someone other than your spouse. Technically, millions and millions of people who don't strictly follow the rules can be excommunicated. There are no middle-of-the-road believers, as far as the hegemony is concerned.

The Jesuits an order or Catholic priests that are seemingly more left than the rest of the church. They were founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola in order to serve the Pope and through St. Francis Xavier, began a strong tradition of education and being missionaries. The editor of America Magazine, a Jesuit was basically forced to resign because the Pope did not like the discussions he proposed in the magazine. Since the Church is a hierarchy, this was handed down from the Pope to the Superior General of the Jesuits, Peter Hans Kolvenbach.
