While they never found a great deal of commercial success, Gang Of Four's post punk stylings have influenced an untold number of bands over the past two decades. From Franz Ferdinand to The Futureheads, there are quite a few bands out there right now that owe a lot to these guys from Leeds. Earlier this year it was announced that the band's original lineup was reforming for a brief North American tour that would begin at Cochella on May 1st. Now, Rhino Records has announced that they will be reissuing the band's classic 1979 debut discs "Entertainment!" to coincide with the shows. The disc has been out of print in the states since 1997, but import sales of the disc have been steady over the years. The album will be repressed on collectors 180 gram vinyl on May 10th and then the remastered cd will follow on May 17th. The cd will also feature the tracks from 1980's "Yellow" EP as well 4 previously unreleased tracks including a cover of the Velvet Underground's "Sweet Jane"

Complete tour dates are available at www.gangoffour.co.uk

Very nice!!

If you don't already own Entertainment!, then shame on you!! Now no one has an excuse. I'll probably pick this up for the 4 unreleased tracks.

I guess if China can embrace market economics...

I'm unashamedly ecstatic, but David Thorpe (who hates everything) made me laugh:

The English post-punk band Gang of Four is cashing in all their commie credibility with another suspiciously-timed reunion. Even though they haven’t released an LP in ten years, they’re at virtually the pinnacle of their fame right now, thanks to lazy “journalists” like me comparing all these new bands with thin ties and angular riffs and new wave haircuts to Gang of Four. It may sound unbefitting of a band of Marxist intellectuals to get back together just because they’ve been getting posthumous press attention, but it shouldn’t come as much of a shock. These are the same guys who, after having a minor club hit with “I Love a Man in Uniform,” got all excited and re-tooled their sound to appeal to the type of people who love minor club hits. They’re going to be playing Coachella later this year along with Bauhaus and the Cocteau Twins, so if you attend the festival you’ll surely see plenty of balding, malnourished ex-college radio DJs standing stock still due to a morbid fear of social dance (and, let’s face it, due to being really, really white).
